I think I found my next non ES guitar purchase....

I had an SG1000 around 10 years ago, was a great guitar. Nice feeling neck, though I think it had a 16" radius fretboard so flatter than what you'd expect. Comfy body with the belly cut. If I remember correctly, it had push-push pots to split the coils instead of push-pull which I thought was a nice touch since I find push-pull kind of annoying. In the end I just decided that the horns were too short and looked weird so I sold it lol. No real complaints, it was basically a nice Les Paul.

Rik Emmet, guitarist and singer for Triumph, a Canadian power trio from the 80's. Lots of vids out there......
Probably the most famous Yamaha SG player other than Carlos.

These guitars are actually very high quality, and fly under the radar somewhat.
Construction is neck-thru, with the center neck - body section being mahogany / maple / mahogany, with mahogany wings and a maple top.
The fretboards are ebony, and the pickups are really nice sounding alnico V's with push/push for coil tapping.
They have a Les Paul kinda vibe, but seem a little brighter and clearer sounding than your typical LP, probably due to the differences in construction.
 
I love those guitars. I had the SBG 200. @VonBonfire this is a good bluesy demo. I think you'll like it. These go for a lot less money and they are sweet, bro.
Stock pickups in this demo. You can tell by the mounting rings which have 3 height adjustment screws. The polepieces on the pickups are Phillips screws. Also the pickups and the mounting rings often turn different shades of creme as the years go by, like you can see in this video.

I never really paid attention to Yamaha guitars, even in this thread, my first thought when I saw the OP was: Ibanez makes something like this (AR420).

The new RevStars just look too plain to me, I'm sure they play and sound good, but to me they're like the Honda Accord of guitars.

It looks like a Les Paul thickness or thereabout to my eyes so it's basically like a Paul with a bit brighter/more biting sound and better upper fret access. Very aggressive sound. And if you watch the reviews the sustain is LP and beyond. I actually don't think I've seen guitars demo'ed with more sustain except maybe a Fernandes, lol. I've never owned a bad piece of Yamaha equipment, even have some PA gear now and my bro has one of their drumsets. My friend says their golf carts are junk. I love brands people turn up their nose at because you can get an amazing guitar for much less $$$. Good morning rsm, hope you are feeling great today brother. And that goes for you to @JohnnyGtar

Good morning VB, hope you're well today too. Other than a sinus cold or maybe the flu, I'm well.

I tend to like odd shapes and features in my guitars, I do have a few "classics" - a Fender strat, Jag, now my SG.



For example, things like my Eastwood Backlund Model 400,...

My fav dual humbucker guitar is Ibanez PS. I remember reading about the original concept which became the Ibanez PS. Paul liked the Iceman shape, but he was just starting to collect and able to afford collecting Gibson bursts, which he used in the studio not on the road. He basically gave Ibanez the specs to one of his favorite bursts at the time which was used on the PS...some updates since...but the PS does feel like a LP to me, and I like the design and price vs a LP Custom (white and gold).

That's a very cool looking axe but that toggle location would make playing it a nightmare for me. I used to have problems with standard 5 position selectors on strats getting bumped. It was a nuisance. The detent on a 3 pos selector on strats was better and I didn't knock them out of place so I eventually switched to nothing but 3 positions.

I know you got that PS love, and like you said, it's like a Les Paul without the surcharge. White, black, and purple are my favorite guitar colors, probably followed closely by a nice burst, especially heritage cherry. They just look so good in person it's hard to pass them by. Not sure I've seen your white PS yet, that sounds like a winner.

I always think I want an SG, then get one, keep it for a minute then always seem to sell them off.

They were all over the place back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Poor man’s Gibson at the time. The ones I’ve played in the past were always really heavy, which was a turn off for me.

I'm a somewhat bigger guy so a 10lbs guitar isn't a big deal for me. These days I feel kinda cheated if I buy a new guitar and it doesn't weigh 8 or 9lbs, minimum.
