EVH Iconic EL34 sounding pretty chuggy here...............

I was a guitar tech for four years for a National act on tour, and helped with sound quite a bit. I saw hundreds of bands live, the sound guy isn’t letting that go FOH, he’s low cutting that at 120hz to audience.
I can respect your opinion but keep in mind what you’re hearing is a cell phone recording. And look at the placement of the phone. Of course you’re going to pick up a lot of low end at that angle. All I’m saying is I own the amp and have no issue with it cutting in a live situation.

There are more than a few of the guys using Iconics playing out on the road right now - Gelal from GBK/Arghoslent/Crucifier, Brandon Ellis with Black Dahlia Murder, Damon and Scott from Detherous/Dying Remains just to name a few off the top of my head- within the past few months they're popping-up on-stage more and more in the death and more extreme metal world.

The EL34 Iconic is great. Not just for the $.
I'd look at one, if it weren't for a good number of QA issues out there with the Iconics.
Perhaps they were just on the initial runs, dunno.

That sounds fine, alone, but it would not cut in a live mix.
Yeah, Black Dahlia Murder disagrees with you.

Honestly any 5150 cuts in a live mix. They’re probably the most commonly used amps by touring bands ever. If you can’t make a 5150 sound good or cut in a mix on recording or live…. You’re doing it wrong.

Just because they’re an affordable amp doesn’t mean they suck.

Dialing in an amp for live mix and playing in the house are totally different. Recording the amp live or in studio (buddy tours in a major band and is using one in the studio - he’s got loads of amps at his disposal) the iconic is just fine.
