Got this a few weeks ago and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. Has 6ca7’s in it and I’m digging them. Only change in there is the power cord and there’s a knob replaced. This is an early PCB model. The boards in these are heavy duty and the traces are wider than the modern PCB stuff.

That baby sounds fantastic. I also have a bone stock '73 50 watt in the stable. And it also has that 'warm' thing going on like yours obviously does. Roll all the gain out of it and it almost sounds Fender-ish for lack of a better term. I have tried an assortment of AIB pedals in front of mine: Pinnacle, BE, Suhr Eclipse. That amp takes pedals like an absolute champ. Keeper amp for sure!

This is the only Marshall I have with the 6ca7’s and I’m wondering if that has anything to do with warming it up.

I haven’t tried many OD’s in front of this one either. The klon sounds great for sure. Used a JHS Morning Glory and it was way too dark. Going to run a few others soon and see what sounds best.

That sounds really great, I noted you said it's bone stock but I still wanted to ask does it have any kind of master volume added to it or are you playing it through an attenuator.

No master volume on that one. It’s guitar, cable, and a klon ktr. The channels are jumpered on the amp and the klon is just adding a bit of boost. Nothing crazy.

That sounds really good for just a pedal in front. I notice you mention it's the "Lead' version so it's the 1987 model?
Do you know if it's got the bright cap still in place.
I am pondering what my next amp purchase might be right now and this has defintely caught my interest. I'm old and have owned a shit ton of Non master volume amps plexis /metal panels etc in the past but it's been a long long time since I owned one and hearing this is making me like Hmmm that's good

I bought my 72 Supertremolo back in 2020 just to have; I'd always wanted a Plexi/Metal panel Superlead to try but I figured it was probably not going to get played a bunch since they are so unruly. Man I was wrong. This amp sounds so good, straight in or boosted, that it chased away a nice 83 2203, Wizard MC100, even a rare C+ Coliseum. Those amps just sat and collected dust after I started boosting the 72.
Now, I run a Distortion pedal in front, and the vol knob on the pedal acts like a Master Vol..easy to play at any volume.
I feel everyone who likes a good Marshall in any form, should try one of these at some point in their gear journey.

72 is a nice year still before they went over to PCB
I never owned a Supertrem, only ever played one once but it was modded for the SIR mods and even then it wasn't working properly.

I currently have 2 Gowers 1 KK++ and a one off Aldrich type mod and the one thing I wonder about is whether playing with a lot of gain will have made me a lazy player, Also in the UK I would be typically pretty much be buying blindly without trying so it's a massive punt to take.
Right now I'm torn between going for another Jose type mod , I fancy the 3 in 1 Jose mod done by Dan or a older marshall. Definitely can't afford both
