Official Mesa IIC++ Reissue?

++ has even more pronounced lower mids (as if a Mesa doesn't already have that lol), and more gain. Hetfields DRG Crunchberries is a ++. I had my 60w C+, and A/B'd it to an HRG ++ and the HRG was a touch darker with more gain. I could boost the C+ to almost match the ++.
The ++ is much ado about nothing imo....when a boost will take care of the same sound. But, I can see metal guys going for it.
Yes darker, yes more gain, and yes more liquid. However, it can't exactly be recreated with a boost because a boost also tightens things up.

Curious about the boost, which one would you pick/choose?

When Mike B. upgrades an OG, you get the option of straight ++ or switchable +/++.

IMO if they would have built the RI with switchable +/++ as well as a pentode / triode switch, which are both legit Mike B mods, it would have sold much better.
Interesting, I always thought the switchable ones were actually modded back in the 80s/early 90s. The ++ I had was already modded when I got it.

To me, A/B'ing them side by side, it was very close in comparison....to my ears the ++ wasn't anything I couldn't get with the + I already had.
But, as always YMMV.

I like the Boss OD1X. Keeps the low end intact, while still keeping it tight.
Curious to know if you ever tried the Boss OD-3 (and if you compared it to the OD1X)?

I've always liked the OD-3 for 3 reasons:
1) from those older Boss pedals it had the most natural stand-alone light overdrive.
2) it had more volume on tap than an SD-1 for instance, which made it very useable as a boost
3) the low-end remained pretty well; no thin, nasal crap, although when using it as a boost, loss of low-end could help, depending on the amp.

I have not tried that one. The 2 things I like best about the 1X is: Very quiet, and leaves the low end alone while still tightening the sound.

Just like i needed another overdrive :ROFLMAO: Ah well, added to the "buy list"
I forgot that it also seems to add a Cameron-esque high end 'grind'....Someone else mentioned that and that's probably another reason I like it. Enjoyed all the Cameron Marshalls I owned.

I had my SG modded to switchable ++ around 4 years ago, and if I remember correctly it was around $400.
IME an external boost won’t do what the ++ mod does. A pedal will tighten and impart its individual flavor into the amp, while the ++ ads gain and saturation while 100% retaining the amps core tone.
I prefer + for tight rhythm, ++ for lead, and don’t see a downside for the (switchable) mod.

Any eta on shipping? Or release? I held back my C+ reissue order because of it.,
Around may but the specific date is not announced. I do hear it’ll be a limited 200 run from a major Mesa shop

my friend just got his og c+ and his III modded to ++ and says it sounds really cool.
i’ll have to give them a spin soon.

this guy cracks me up

My ++ is NOT switchable. But I can adjust the treble volume and gain down to where the + lives but not vice versa. I do agree with everything you said about boosting a +. Just isn’t the same.

Such a missed opportunity! So the simul class is triode and the A//B is pentode?

Simul Class amps up through the Mark III blue stripe had the Class A pair wired in triode. The Green stripe & the C+ RI have the Class A pair wired in pentode. The Mark IV and V have a P/T switch.
