Official Mesa IIC++ Reissue?

++ has even more pronounced lower mids (as if a Mesa doesn't already have that lol), and more gain. Hetfields DRG Crunchberries is a ++. I had my 60w C+, and A/B'd it to an HRG ++ and the HRG was a touch darker with more gain. I could boost the C+ to almost match the ++.
The ++ is much ado about nothing imo....when a boost will take care of the same sound. But, I can see metal guys going for it.
Yes darker, yes more gain, and yes more liquid. However, it can't exactly be recreated with a boost because a boost also tightens things up.

Curious about the boost, which one would you pick/choose?

And there is no + option on a ++ (ie its not a switchable thing to have on the same amp)?
The one I had, was not switchable. Some out there are, and I think they are all versions that were modded in the 80s, making them more valuable.

When Mike B. upgrades an OG, you get the option of straight ++ or switchable +/++.

IMO if they would have built the RI with switchable +/++ as well as a pentode / triode switch, which are both legit Mike B mods, it would have sold much better.
Interesting, I always thought the switchable ones were actually modded back in the 80s/early 90s. The ++ I had was already modded when I got it.

To me, A/B'ing them side by side, it was very close in comparison....to my ears the ++ wasn't anything I couldn't get with the + I already had.
But, as always YMMV.

FWIW if you have a switchable like mine you can really see the difference, since there’s a lot of amp to amp variation.

I like the Boss OD1X. Keeps the low end intact, while still keeping it tight.
Curious to know if you ever tried the Boss OD-3 (and if you compared it to the OD1X)?

I've always liked the OD-3 for 3 reasons:
1) from those older Boss pedals it had the most natural stand-alone light overdrive.
2) it had more volume on tap than an SD-1 for instance, which made it very useable as a boost
3) the low-end remained pretty well; no thin, nasal crap, although when using it as a boost, loss of low-end could help, depending on the amp.
