What do you consider modern metal ?

It’s like you used my brain and your hands to type this. 👍 I do like Ola and John Browne though.

Question about setting up a Floyd Rose

Thank you. I set it up with the knife edge block parallel to the body. I did a no-no by adjusting the bridge height without slacking the strings. I forgot about that until I’d already started turning. Oops. Regardless, it’s all set up. Action, bridge angle, intonation, pickup height. Plays...

    Easily gigable Combo amps

I use a Marshall DSL40C. It’s never let me down. I generally use the Classic Crunch channel. However, I recently did the C19 mod. I just clipped it out instead of replacing it. This made the gain channel useful.

    Looking at Bare Knuckle pickups

I put in new pots. Gave it a Kinman treble bleed and replaced the tone capacitor with the same value that was originally in it. Changed strings and intonated it for 9s. It's much better now. The Tone Zone is still pretty crappy, very flubby and loose on the low end, but someone just sold me a...

I'm replacing the pots now but all I have on hand are pots with push-pull DPDT switches. May as well figure something interesting to do with them.

    Looking at Bare Knuckle pickups

Deoxit in the volume pot does seem to bring back some of the low end but it still sounds pretty crappy. I think I'm going to replace the pots and go from there.

There is a treble bleed on the volume. but that shouldn't affect the circuit with the pot at full volume. Unless the pot is messed up and has resistance at 10.

It’s turning into a buyers market

I was selling a cabinet for $800. Got offered $400. That’s a lowball offer for sure.

It’s turning into a buyers market

Oh, are we talking about inflated prices? I’ve dealt with lowballers the past year but I’m willing to play the game. Sold some stuff last week though.

    Looking at Bare Knuckle pickups

Well, I looked into this more and you’re correct. It shouldn’t be true. The Tone Zone is supposed to be a bass boosted, more low mids pickup with the treble rolled off. There’s either something wrong with the pickup or there’s some sort of bass cut installed. Or the Dimarzio installed isn’t a...

It’s turning into a buyers market

I was just thinking the buyers are finally pulling the trigger more after about a year of no activity. I’m willing to sit on my stuff until I get my price or a sweet trade. Equipment doesn’t eat.

    "Repairing" a direct-mount pickup

Yeah. Just hit up the hardware store for a pack of bolts that fit the smaller screw. Superglue or solder it into place. In the past I’ve cut the little tabs off of broken pickups before and just glued them to the pickup with the too large hole.

Thanks for the info. I like a little extra top end in the neck pickup but it sounds like it is too much. Maybe I’ll grab a dB bridge and try it.

We should start a pickup lending library where we can borrow pickups for two weeks and try them out and then send them back.
