I think it's a cool pickup that has a JB vibe if you're into your JB's., but that's not a 1:1 clone. To me, it almost sounded like you took elements from an A2 JB and a stock A5 JB.
The Dominion might be worth a try too if you want something like a tighter, more modern JB with a twist of...
3 is definitely the tightest, I feel. However, 2 has less low-end. Not sure if 1 is actually the tightest, now that I think about it, but I feel the low-end is the fastest-tracking.
Thanks for listening. :)
I love LTD's. Regarding mid-priced instruments, I've had the best luck with them. Way more consistent than PRS SE, Epiphone, etc. All of the ones I've had have been solid at the very least. I've had a couple that could rival much more expensive guitars.
The riff is not mine. I wished it was, but nah. I heard it some time ago at the Sneap forum. Not sure, but I believe it's by a band called Machinate? Don't quote me on that, but yeah. It's got groooooove.
Thanks! Yeah, 3 has some aggression going on. I like it... but at the same time, I'm not...
I love my JB's, but I'm not sure it's the right pickup for this guitar at this point. Sometimes I love it, though. But other times, yeah, it's a bit much.
I've kinda wanted to try a Tone Zone for a while. I'm just not sure it'd be the right pickup for a Les Paul in Drop C, though. Then again...
Thank you! That's the Strat. :D
Thank you! 1 is the LTD with the Ant JB, 2 is the Strat with the AT-1.
I think what you're hearing with 3 is that the bridge pickup is closer to the bridge itself than on the other 2 guitars. I kinda like it, but it does have a way more aggressive attack than...
Song is not mine. I remember hearing it on the Sneap Forum way long ago. But anyways, just riffing out to compare them all.
They're not all JB's, really, LOL. One of them is a DiMarzio AT-1. But an AT-1 is pretty much just a DiMarzio JB, haha.
So it's my LTD EC with an Antiquity JB, my Fender...
I think it's cool because it's certainly a different tone.
I'm not sure I dig the hollow mids and the slight hint of fizz, to be honest, but I guess you could build a cool mix around it. I do think it would make for a good more old-school Thrash-y tone! Either that, or some sort of early...
I got into them when I was in highschool, personally. So for me, it's part nostalgia, not gonna lie. When I started listening to Metal, I didn't know better. I still listen to those couple of albums from the mid 2000's, and they sound great to me, though. The less Emo-y bands from that style...
IMO tones that sound good mic'd always sound good in the room.
IMO tones that sound "good" in the room, don't always sound good mic'd. Especially when someone is not used to dialing in tones that will work well in a mix.
I also think it's a good idea to have a few reference tones that you like...
Yeah, I agree that somewhere in the middle would be ideal for me. Although, as they are right now, I prefer the first half.
EQ tip: Try scooping out some lower mids as well as what you're doing to the high-end. That would bring out some air and life on the guitars as well. Compared to the CC...
I think the problem, for me, is that the drum tone on that record really brings everything down.
I hate how the drums are so cardboardy and drenched in reverb. Rathen than sounding roomy, they just come across as so distant.
