Is there a reason my new Power Station PS-2A sounds and feels much better than the previous one I owned?

Mine sounds different when the speaker is plugged in vs unplugged and using the loadbox part.

Is there a reason my new Power Station PS-2A sounds and feels much better than the previous one I owned?

I would rather it had the ability to go to zero. I can use it as is, but would be nice if it coukd be silent at times.

Does yours go silent with the volume on zero? Or is there still some volume from the speakers?

    Reconsidering the Wizard Hell Razor

Have never heard a good recording/ clip of a HR yet. Also have not seen it used in a band setting yet. I don’t play metal or like modern metal tones. Played a gig Saturday nite with my MC, excellent as always.

The Secret to Nuno Bettencourt's Tone • Extreme "Waiting For The Punchline" vid by Michael Nielsen

This album is pretty different. His usual tone is nothing special.

    Fatter JB soundalikes?

Yeah it’s weird how it works. I had a Rg570 and tried different pickups in it…ended up with a Tonezone in it. The basswood body needed the extra bass to balance out the sound of the basswood. Years later a friend had me put one in his LP. It sounded terrible to me, but he liked it.

    Fatter JB soundalikes?

Any pickup can sound great in one guitar and terrible in another. Just have to find the one that matches up to whatever you have. Duncan and Dimarzio both have exchange policies.

    Fatter JB soundalikes?

You said you like the Antiquity better, why not get one of those? Other than that fatter JB to me is a Tone Zone.

Soooo… $3499 for the RI Dual Rec?

The knobs are fine. The lettering on the chassis is my issue. I use this amp so rarely I can’t remember which control is which.

Soooo… $3499 for the RI Dual Rec?

Yeah it is tough to read them. Flashlights are no help either. Looks cool and all, but they could have thought about us dive bar playin’ heathens.

My iron is always maxxed pretty much…700-750. Can’t imagine only 350-400.

preamp tubes for Marshall 1987 style amp

When the Russia / Ukraine war broke out, Russia stopped the exporting of many items. Tubes were one of them. New Sensor had to move all their manufacturing to Chinese factories. They are still being made in China. Pretty sure it was after 2020, my sense of time eludes me it seems 😄 I used...

preamp tubes for Marshall 1987 style amp

I would think those later Tungsols would sound different being made in Chinese factory vs Russian factory. Materials must be somewhat different at the very least. Ruby tubes I never thought sounded as good as just the plain old generic Chinese 12ax7b’s, they must be the same tubes just...

preamp tubes for Marshall 1987 style amp

These were when they first came out…back in the 90’s maybe? Tried them in a few different amps, never cared for them.

preamp tubes for Marshall 1987 style amp

That was my experience with the EH pres too…very bright and grainey sounding.

preamp tubes for Marshall 1987 style amp

That is good to hear. Hope they are the same. The old ones were really good. As long as they were the 12ax7b’s never had an issue with them. In a vintage amp I might go a different route, but modern amp, no reason to use anything else. Never cared for any of the New Sensor stuff especially...
