So I am looking at getting one of those DBX compressor/limiter/gate type units for our P.A. at the band rehearsal studio.
Anyone has any experience with these effects units ?
Do I wire it up inline between the mixer and power amp ? I am mainly looking at the gate and limiter functions...
That's sort of the situation I was in. I had a couple of pedals, worked great for me. Then I wanted to experiment with another effect, etc..
at the time, the FX8 was the "cheapest" option that provided me what I needed effect wise + a bit more. Over the years I've actually consolidated more...
Years ago I had bought a Fortin Zuul, and it worked great. Then I found out about Guptech, bought their Noise gate and sold the Zuul.
I actually had them build me a custom pedal a couple of years back. It was an overdrive, Gate, delay.. sounded amazing. Ended up selling it after getting the...
PERFECT! those damn ground loops drive musicians crazy. LOL.
Aside from all that, your rig is pretty simple. I cant think of anything else to be honest other than maybe a noise gate to remove any left over hum/hiss. That's about it.
my fav. standalone pedal is the Sun from Guptech...
Maybe something like this would be useful for you?

That's the reason why I am holding off of buying the Mercury. I want to hear the AmpX and see it's functionality. Otherwise it's the Mercury paired up with my Fractal FX8 through midi and 4-Cable-Method.
not arguing with you on that my friend. I am just stating my experience with it. As I mentioned, it may sound completely different in someone else's amp and with their rig in general.
Cheers
I've tried that tube in multiple amps... And I've always found it to be very congested sounding. Lots of gain on tap, but also very noisy.
The sound is very thick on it, but not in a good way.
Again, this may work better in another amp or with different settings. But with the amps and...
I sort of go between heavy right hand and light touch right hand. Depends on the song/music.
I think the American Steele set is more likely what I'd go for.
Yeah the first one I got from Wofltones squealed like a piggy. Wolf him self called me after I emailed him and offered to send me a potted replacement, install it and test it at no cost.. and if I was happy with it (which i was) then I'd send him the original one back. needless to say it did...
Thanks guys. Appriciate the feedback. I think you've built a stronger case for me to get it to try.
I'll have to reach out to Jim to see what he recommends with the Godwood for the neck. Looking for something balanaced level wise. Right now I think I have the marshallhead in the neck, and...
So I've been rocking the Wolftones Timrewolf in my LP Classic for some time now, and it sounds great. But I've been wanting to try the JWP Godwood set in the LP Classic.
Any thoughts on the difference in sound/tone between the 2 for those who have had a chance to try both pickups ?
I know...
Hey guys,
Any idea what's required to be modded or changed on the EL34 Nitro if I wanted to try KT88s in there ? And do I have to undo those changes if I want to go back to EL34s or can I keep the changes ?
Thanks
100%.. I did also have the JJ E83CC as well, which was really old.. and a friend of mine was over and he had all JJ's in one of his amps. So he let me try them in the Nitro. Was really Surprised how good they sounded. So I ordered some.
For power tubes, I like the JJ EL34II. A lot of people...
Does the Suhr RL have a mobile app of some sort to make adjustments on the fly?
That's one of the interesting things with the Torpedo Captor X that I liked for a live situation.
Thanks
