I will never understand why people feel this stuff is an “either/or” scenario. I like Les Pauls but I also have other guitars I like. I like Chinese food and Mexican food too. Limiting yourself sucks imo. More is always better and not every rig is perfect for every situation—many of us find ourselves playing guitar in various scenarios believe it or not. I have $20k in tube amps here and I still love the Fractal stuff.
It was a joke...the thread was heading in a certain direction and it was a poor attempt at humour, very poor it seems!
Having said that, I
love exploring new tech and so have tried nearly every digital solution on the market. In general it just doesn't do it for me - Kemper, Axe FX, Neural etc. And this is after extensive use with a very open mind. Had good luck with I.R technology though, once I figured out how to accurately capture our own cabs and that the load is absolutely critical.
So it's worth noting that when people pledge allegiance to a certain type of gear is doesn't
necessarily mean they are limiting themselves, are close-minded, or are stubborn. Maybe they have spent the time and have a real, justifiable preference for something - in my case tube amps. In other cases I'm sure there's plenty of guys who are completely set in their ways and only like old-school stuff without really exploring digital.
I think advocating that everyone
needs to move forward with the times is too general a mindset, and I know for sure many would disagree with the 'more is always better' sentiment. For example I've heard a number of conversations go something like this:
young guy: "You really have to try the new XYZ modeler from ABC, it's amazing"
old guy: "Why do I have to? My deluxe reverb and plexi give me everything I need"
young guy: gives 30 reasons the modeler suits his
own requirements, situations and budget.
This is the way of online 'discussions' too it seems - many folks only focus on their own needs and experiences, leading to polarising arguments and absolute statements.
Sorry if this sounds like I'm bashing your post - not my intention. I guess if you can't understand why some guys are in fact 'either/or' then this may shed some light? Don't know, maybe it's all useless hot air.
Damn, maybe it wasn't such an anodyne joke after all!
