In this episode of the In The Room video series, we run a dual amp setup.

The Mesa Boogie Quad is running into an Emperor 4x12 with Eminence Governors and Tonkers in an X pattern. VHT Sig:X is connected to an Orange 2x12 with Celestion V30s.

Audio is captured with a Townsend Labs Sphere L22 microphone.




Be kind and hike the volume, Youtube always nerfs my levels even though they are quieter than other videos. And listen on monitors!

In my day of micing in room, not only would I have a 57 on a cab, maybe an extra 421.
I would also use a matched pair of Neumans for room mics (They were also fantastic as overheads for drums).

I think a set of room mics would definitely help these videos.
Not that you need my two cents...

But Im also about a 57 into a kick drum with a Beta and blending them together for my kick tone...

The whole idea of these videos I’ve been doing is to try to capture the “in the room” sound of these amp and cabinet combinations.

There is no close micing of the cabs in this video. The room microphone is about 3-4 feet away from the cabs and it is set at around ear level.

It’s a stereo microphone, so there is a left side and a right side, which I think is a suitable approximation of human ears.
