Thanks for all the kind words guys (and gal). Not really hearing the Van Halen-ism in my playing, and have never been told that before, but I'll take the compliment.
Are you doing much with the guitar EQ post tracking? That's a PAF pickup straight into my JCM800, double-tracked and panned hard left & right.
I added about 3dB of gain using a Neve 1073 mic preamp on the SM57
The solo is my SLO preamp.
I used to have to really fight with that, multi-tracking guitars using the JB pickup. Are you doing much with the guitar EQ post tracking?
Your tone has good clarity. Member Bram was mentioning how guys, metal guys I would assume, are notching out certain freq's after the fact but it seems like just having the amp EQ set right from the get go makes more sense than trying to clean up a mess afterwards.I used to have to really fight with that, multi-tracking guitars using the JB pickup.
Now I'm using a PAF style pickup, and I'm not getting the mid-frequency buildup anymore.
I can double-track (like I did here on Eye Of The Sahara) and the tone just gets fatter/thicker without mud.
Once I have a finished track, it almost always has double-tracked rhythm guitar, a solo somewhere in the track, and bass guitar.Your tone has good clarity. It would be interesting to hear your tone pre-EQ and then post-EQ in terms of after your raw track is recorded. Not familiar with Ozone but just by looking at what you posted here I'm guessing the clarity on your actual guitar rig is pretty high to begin with and you are just refining it a very small amount to get it exactly where you want or perhaps to offset the natural EQ of your chosen mics?Once I have a finished track, it almost always has double-tracked rhythm guitar, a solo somewhere in the track, and bass guitar.
I use Ozone 11 EQ on the main bus to get some clarity.
That's what I've had to learn by trial & error from recording my own stuff, and also listening to guys like Tom Bukovac talk about getting a guitar to sit right in a mix.It would be interesting to hear your tone pre-EQ and then post-EQ in terms of after your raw track is recorded. This is the ass-end of a song I'm working on. I quad tracked for this recording - Caparison Horus into Quad Cortex for two tracks and ESP RZK-II into a JVM410H for the other two.
I been actually using a JB and playing a 6 string . I swear we are opposites at times lol .I used to have to really fight with that, multi-tracking guitars using the JB pickup.

I’m going to then proceed to sweep Mary had a little lamb over it lol jk@NowYou'rePlayingWithPower Care to write the first half of this song?
I can send you the stems and the midi drum tracks and you can feel free to structure whatever you think will make this song pop! Doesn't have to be anything more than an unofficial collaboration, and at the end of the day we both take our riffs and that's that.
Hey. maybe we could even have a "never ending Rig-Talk" song. After @NowYou'rePlayingWithPower finishes writing some riffs and adding to the song, she can name someone else and they will have the task of continuing the song.
We could see how long it gets. Shredders would also be most welcome!
Don't get me wrong.. I love that pickup in that mahogany body guitar.I been actually using a JB and playing a 6 string . I swear we are opposites at times lol .

I'm just tired of tryna multi-track guitars with it.
It has a mid-range frequency thing you just can't EQ out.
Quad track meaning four separate guitar performance tracks or quad track meaning two separate performance tracks with close+room mic for each?I (at the very least) quad track all my rhythms
It is but if it's metal I think "Black Mother Ship" would be more fitting. Plus it's a real thing.....That's a great name for a band.

The honk was one of the reasons I was like "this JB ain't too bad". I still pulled it out but I definitely could get by with one in a bind. Quite easily. There are just better choices.

How bout the most un-Rig-Talk Van Halen clip possible
Recorded using my iphone mic and the garageband iphone app
What about "Rage Against The Giant Honk Machine" ?It is but if it's metal I think "Black Mother Ship" would be more fitting. Plus it's a real thing.....
