11-52 E standard. Who knew?

I think it is important to note that he is playing 11s on 24.75 scale guitars.

I used to play 11s exclusively, and my low E was a 62 gauge on everything from Les Pauls to Ibanez RGs and BC Rich Warlocks, but I tried a set of 10s and it felt amazing jumping from string to string due to the fact that the strings all were balanced. From then on out, I've used 10s and a 52 low E. The tone is still thick, but it got more bite, which I liked from triplets and quads. It doesn't sound as percussive, but it's got a bite that seems to sound more musical. It's hard to describe.

I still can't get along with 9s however...

Wow, when i used 11-52, I tuned drop C. Little bit loose, but I don't really do well with heavy strings. Just got a baritone so I can get lower tunings without going too heavy with the strings. Maybe I'll try increasing a little bit, I don't play as much lead as I used to.

I've got 0.0011"-0.052" gauge strings, which I tune to Standard E as well as D, occasionally dropped C etc.

I did used to use thicker ones (0.013"-0.056"), but the current gauge is a good set.

The thinner ones are just too flimsy to me.

I actually have some dunlops heavy cores on my seven

Nice tension and not too fat.

Yep. Never really thought about gauges too much till fairly recently.

So I haven't posted on Rig-talk since 2011 - just a fun fact for you guys, but this is a topic I'm really interested in.

When I played 7-strings, I tuned to Eb with a low Bb and I used 9-42-56's. I have no idea how I managed. Right now I tune to standard - I no longer play 7 strings and don't use low tunings since my taste in music has changed a lot. I found that 10-52 in Eb was basically perfect. Everything intonates so well, but I inevitably end up returning to standard, and that's where the problem is. For me, 9's are too loose, and 10's are just a little too tight only as far as bends at the 22nd fret go. As far as picking and fingering go, 10's are brilliant provided your action is nice and low; playing thick strings with high action is my worst nightmare.

I think my ideal set of strings would be a set of .0095 - .050 set of Nanowebs!
