The 4 holes are for tiny wood screws, not like Floyd screws that go through the neck. If the guitar plays good and sounds good who gives a shit ?

The OP, apparently.

And me.

Personally, I'd be pretty irritated if any of my Les Pauls had four tiny holes in the headstock. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong. That's just my opinion.

Nothing wrong with the Kahler.

If you don't want the trem it might be easier just to find a stock one. 70's LPC should be rather plentiful.

I wouldn't pay the asking price but if I could get it for what think it's worth, I'd grab it. Put a sticker over the hole and throw on a tune o matic. If it sounds and feels good, try and get a better price. I've had many norlins and don't get the hate. Some are great guitars.

Yes, you don't want any of that Norlin crap! That era Gibson LP is unplayable garbage and you could never get anywhere, never develop as a player, never get a good tone and never write or record classic rock albums on that Norlin era stuff. That era Gibson is way beneath any of us connoisseurs on RT and on every other guitar forum in the world.

Besides Randy Rhoads, who played that Norlin crap? Oh yeah, John Sykes. But besides Randy Rhoads and John Sykes, who played that Norlin crap? Oh yeah, Zakk Wylde. But besides Rhoads, Sykes and Zakk Wylde, who played that Norlin crap? Well yeah, John Norum. But besides, Rhoads, Sykes, Zakk and Norum who played that Norlin crap?

And one other thing... don't even think of playing that horrible CBS era Fender strat. No one would ever play that garbage. I mean, no one besides Hendrix, Blackmore, Trower, Uli Roth and Yngwie Malmsteen, who would be caught dead playing the CBS era Fenders?

:D

he he .... yeah practically every band in the 70's used that stuff.

If its good enough for Hanneman, then its good enough period.

I started reading this and immediately began thinking, "Oh, my. I must have no ear or eye for quality. I like my LP from that era. I like the way it plays, I like the way it sounds. Oh, well. I guess I must be one of those who drank the Kool-Aid.

Then my slow mind picked up on where you were going with your post.

To much relief, I felt better once I realized my LP was okay. I simply suffered from the well-know disease of "lack-a-talent". :D

Good post. Thanks for the smile!

I'd reach out to the repair folks over at Chicago Music Exchange. They did some incredible work on my old Ibanez Destroyer which had some of the same issue.

I had a MINT 76 Custom that I bought from my teacher when I was 15 or 16. First thing I did was put a flush mount Kahler on it. I did not have to route it, BUT, it did make some nice dents where it fit into the tailpiece studs. I did drill the holes for the locking nut but that was the only drilling that was done. The bar worked as it should and added what seemed like 50lbs to it. Also ripped out the "crap" stock pups to put in a Dimarzio X2N PP. It was a cherry one owner guitar before I got it. My teacher spent over a year looking for "the one" and that was it. If I could have a time machine I would go back just to smack me and call me a jackass! Like whats been said, there are so many better examples out there and I'm sure you'd be able to find one that plays and sounds as nice as this one, without the extra baggage. Dont be a 15 yr old Phil B.... trust me!!

I've walked away from 3 Norlin Les Paul's in my life, a goldtop I described above, a DeLuxe that was beat to shit but played like butter and sounded great, and an Alpine White "second" that also played and sounded great ('86)... in all cases I went back to the store after a day or two and all 3 were gone...I regretted not buying all 3 over the years. The DeLuxe was a relic long before relics were around. Beat to shit but awesome in every way.
