1982 Kramer Pacer "Restore"

So, I decided to restore my old '82 Kramer Pacer to an old school "beak" maple neck. I had a "hockey stick" headstock on it that was from Warmoth because the original neck was trashed. I also decided to snazz it up a bit with a candy stripe paint job instead of the purple (guitar was originally white). Paint job was inspired by a really cool Charvel strathead I saw recently... I got a new neck built - it was poorly shaped, but Marty Bell (website) did a great job finishing shaping of the neck and applied a satin finish as well as refinishing the headstock with the candy stripe and a period correct Kramer Pacer script decal I provided.

Here is what the guitar looked like originally, except for an added Floyd (replacing the POS Rockinger trem), a changed pickup, and a removed tone knob :hys:

Then after some mods, here is what the guitar looked like (far right purple guitar) before this project started:

Here is what it looks like now:

Pretty cool, huh? This is my "Classic VH" guitar. Tuned a half step down and just has "the sound" with the right amp. That is one of Vic at Mojave Ampwork's low output bridge humbuckers, which sound great...

No man - that is the right picture. That old purple guitar all the way to the right is the same guitar as the striped one. I just had a new neck built...

That looks cool

You said the neck was poorly shaped, not to your liking? Was it reshaped when it was finished off?

omg haha I didnt notice, wow I like how it turned out

Thanks man... Yeah, it was just still a bit rough, not sanded smooth in some places and sharp angles and Marty refined the shaping so it matched a real old pacer neck and then satin finished it. It looks great! The basic shape was correct, just needed refining...

Looks awesome Steve!

One question...
Where can I find a "KRAMER" decal??
Keith

Steve,
That thing looks killer. I really want an old Kramer Pacer with that headstock on it and a maple neck. I really wanted one bad in 1983 so I started saving for it. While saving for the $650 Kramer I played a San Dimas Charvel. Game over for Kramer. :D

You can get them from these guys. They often sell them on eBay for $12 and you tell them exactly what kind you want. They are waterslide decals.

Thanks, man! I'll bring it down when my amp is ready... BTW - do you know when it will be done?

As you know, I love SD Charvels - but I do love these Kramers as well...

Thanks,

Steve

But I like the hockey stick headstock better.

I thought I would like the hockey stick too, but I got sick of it... I prefer old school now ;)

so what happened to the old neck and how bad was it trashed?

The old neck maple/maple duckbeak had no frets left and went into the trash. The hockey stick neck in the picture above is a Warmoth replacement and it is in great condition. It is flame maple with brazilian rosewood fretboard. I'm going to sell the hockey stick neck with the sperzel locking tuners and floyd nut to the highest bidder...
