2022 Gear Plans!!! Post Them Up!!!

I had NO plans going into this year…. Somehow I‘ve managed to buy: a pair of F70’s, a Mesa vertical 2x12, two Berkshire heads, have another Berkshire and 4x12 on the way, and a Mesa CA Tweed. Sold the CA Tweed and also a IIC. We‘re not even through the first quarter of the year!

What did you have in mind? I'm in a similar boat
I ended up with an Ibanez SZ2020 with electronics swap to DiMarzio EJ in the Neck and 36th Ann in the bridge. I'm very happy with the results...

Just found a Plexi reissue the other week that I sent to Dave Friedman to clean up / mod. Probably be the last of my amp purchases for a bit, only other thing on my list is a Wizard and not trying to drop $5k on another amp right now.

Guitar wise I'm between building a partscaster (I completely lack the space/tools) or maybe getting Veritas to make one for me at a premium. I've already got a pretty good tele though, so this is bottom of the list and more for aesthetics/fun.

My pedal board is exactly how I want it, but I'm now venturing into building my own circuits, so plan on replacing my phaser and also maybe my flanger with some original designs...if I get confident might fuck with some PLLs.

I have an Aviator custom that is waiting on customs clearance and a Peavey 6505 shipping next week. Other than that I have a Mayones Duvell due at the end of 2022 and I just finished a spec sheet on an Explorer build from Chubtone.

That's all of the major purchases for me. I have a few little small things I want this year like an ABY box, a reamp/di box, and an amp switcher. Possibly a wah pedal and another EQ pedal if I get some extra cash. I'm going to spend more money on lessons this year plus learn how to record better.
Well I have pretty much stuck to the plan. My Aviator is here and my Duvell and Chubtone are due Q3 of this year. Also got the 6505 a little but later than expected but it's here. I was thinking of letting KSR mod it. Now I gotta figure out how to pay for all this stuff. I got a 7% raise this year but with inflation it's a wash. Still waiting to interview for my new position which should happen by April 15th. If it pays off as well as I've been told I can pay for everything within a check or two.

I did order a 2x12 from KSR since their cab prices are still reasonable and a ceriatone 2204. I'm going to add a cab switcher after the cab shows up. But it's a weird feeling to have my favorite flavors of amps. The only thing I am hating is recabling each time I switch heads. But my G.A.S. for new amps is almost non existent except when there is a stupid deal.

I want a couple more mics:

• Sennheiser 441
• Unidyne 57
• REAL 121… mines a copy but it sounds really good

More mic pres:
• Avedis MA5’s
• Chandler TG2’s

Likely some more outboard gear for a dedicated 2-bus setup. Looking at:

• Wes Audio Dione compressor
• Wes Audio Prometheus eq

As far as guitars, literally nothing in the world I want. That feels weird. Maybe a few amps/cabs. If anything I’d like these:

• 5153 EL34 100’watt
• Engl Special Edition
• Wizard of some sort
• Splawn QR (miss mine)
• Splawn/Mesa/Fortin 412’s

I'm going for the original and latest of a pretty long line of amps...

I would love to try a Wizard but damn my pockets aren't deep enough. I would definitely grab another splawn if I found a steal

Change of plans.. going to get the AxeFx FX8 instead of the AxeFX II. FX8 will replace the rack effects and full pedal board. FX8 will be used for Full effects, boost, and channel switching on the Splawn Nitro.
Happy to report that plans completed. AxeFX FX8 received, setup/configured to work with the Splawn Nitro. Works like a charm.

Practicing more so my existing gear sounds better
Hey buddy, agreed, however, did you notice
the tumbleweed’s?
With the current climate of it all, I say
go BOWIE.
Your gear now becomes a dress, just cruise around on the “Hollywood Diet”
(Cocaine, vodka & spinach)
and act the part!!!
You don’t need no f’n amps or hand wounds..,
You need more BOWIE.

I’d love to pick up a Fryette Sig-X. A guy down the street has one but won’t give it up. One day...

So I went to the 3 area Guitar Centers and as soon as I walked in the first one, this Traditional literally winked at me, it wouldn't stop staring at me. So I went over and flipped the price tag around and to my surprise it said, $1,699.00. Well then, nice start. I had the kid unlock it and as soon as I played it, I liked it. Then I played some of the good looking/playing Epiphones and looked at the few other Paul's. Then, I went to the other GC in the area and I did not like the LP's they had. One was extremely weird to say the least, it had a mahogany neck like an SG and a dull finish, played like a dog.

So I trucked back to the first GC and bought the Traditional. I like it more now that I've slapped the pick guard on it and played it for a few hours. I have a new Tom Anderson H3 pick up coming for the bridge, the stock pick up quacks like a duck, spiky and zero meat, and I'm not into changing my settings for one guitar. All my other guitars have either H3+ or H3's. 35 years of the same pick up will do that to you.

LP Trad looks nice and that was a better price than someone would probably try to sell it for privately on marketplace or Craigslist these days.

I think I’m adding a Guild D-20 to my 2022 gear goals. My one acoustic I have right now is a Jumbo and honestly can be annoying to play due to its size. I considered the M-20 to have an even smaller “folk” body size but the sound of the dreadnaught is so much better to me. My jumbo Takamine is loud and pretty bright sounding, so a little smaller and all mahogany Dreadnaught would be a nice change of pace/compliment.

I've got a Gibson Flying V set up in C standard with BKP Warpigs that does not sound right. I think the pickups were installed wrong, the guitar sounds weak as hell. Once that's fixed I'm good on metal/high gain gear.

The focus this year is gonna be country tones. I can get a good enough sound with a Strat and the clean channel on my Herbert, but I know there's room for improvement. Picking up a Tele in a few weeks, then later in the summer I'll see if I can scrounge up the cash for a Vox style amp.
