More curious about how the xtc 20th red channel compares to the higher gain channel of the shiva??
thoughts??

Altogether different....

XTC is more metal, hi-fi, Uberschall-like in tone. Shiva is more Marshall, creamy, buttery, smooth, thick.

There is absolutely no cross-over between the two.

Steve, so you can get a heavy metal tone outta the XTC?

Absolutely. It is versatile. Keep in mind though, the trade off comes when having to share the EQ with the blue channel. The only way I can make mine work so that I am content with the blue and red is to set red where I want it, then dial up blue in the Plexi mode and use the micro switches and EQ shifts to get it dialed up. The green is a waste of space for me really. Would be nice if the XTC came with green being Plexi, blue being Bogner gain and normal blue voicing and red being red. That way this shared EQ would be such a limitation.

The Shiva is just smooth and very enjoying to rip up. I never have touch the settings on the Shiva. I could pull the knobs off of it and it would same the same every time I plugged in. The XTC takes a little more tweaking and trade off, but is still a monster and one of the best boutique amps on the market, along with a VH4.

great response!!..thanks!!

They are 2 entirely different animals with the name (Bogner) being the only genetic lineage shared.

Shiva's a hot little beast...

20thA XTC is a masterpiece...

Hard to explain, I'd say Steve's opinion that it's more metal-like is pushing it, the Uberschall is metal, the 20thA XTC is wickedly rich and organic and full... The Shiva is a brilliant little beast filled with cream, grind, clean and kerrang.

All a matter of opinion, but as for x-over, very little.

Peace,
V.

The 20th XTC has a wider midrange and the 20th Shiva, a more focused one. They both have great clean channels and from what I've heard they can both be dialed in to sound nearly identical. I really like having the green channel on the XTC for Radiohead-like passages with delay for example.

Back to your question, the red channel of the XTC sounds really thick and full...swirls with a wide midrange that is both smooth and aggressive (if dialed up more on the presence control). By comparison the Shiva would be more of a Marshall-like grind, kerrang, more gritty, focused.

You cannot get Shiva out of the Ecstacy no matter how it is dialed. Two very different animals as stated. Both Clean and Overdrive. Both fantastic!!! I have them both for reference. Bogner customer service is through the roof as well. I'll post about my experience once it is complete.

reason i was asking was because i have a 20th xtc....(killer ...love it)
So wanted to know what the shiva would bring to "the collection".

It will bring quite a bit to your collection. It sounds even better with the SED 6550's.

Yes, highly recommended. And, as Gary says, go ahead and have it changed over to 6550's. Even better..........

You guys aren't helping... Hell I still have yet to finish my Mak 4 based rack rig and here I am already pondering the PRESS BUY button on a 20thA Shiva.

RT... The bane of all consumer musicians :D

Just depends if you want that bit of Shiva tone in the arsenal. Its what the JCM 800 wanted to be and should have been.

Oh Dayuum!! Do tell. I can't stand it. Reinhold kills. I was looking at the CCV guts. Makes me wonder what Mark picked up from the Master from working with him. Top Secret I'm sure.

From the sound of it, I think he picked up whatever he could conceal and take from the shop undetected......

101 chassis/head box/layout/board/board mounts = CCV. Although, Mark still uses soldered connection pots, buss wired tubes sockets, wired jacks, Mercury iron.
