4x12 for an SLO?

I'm thinking of picking up a 4x12 for my SLO. I'm currently looking at used Marshall 4x12s. I'm also looking at new empty 4x12s from Mojotone or other builders, and then picking up speakers for it. But I'm really pretty much open to anything.

Any suggestions?

I liked it best with an old '70s Marshall with G12Ms. I tried with it V30s, G12Hs, and G12T-75s. The V30s in a Bogner were pretty nice and a lot like the G12M cab somehow. V30s in a Mesa cab weren't as warm. G12H was way too zingy. G12T75 was crispy and scooped. I got a cab with G12-65s the week after selling the SLO, but I think they would have worked well.

Oh, and I tried it with a Soldano cab with whatever speakers. Wow that was terrible. Dull and fizzy at the same time.

Stay away from Vintage 30's, sounds like crap. A Marshall cab with 75's sounds decent. I've heard 25 watt Greenbacks sounds pretty good too. Best cab for the SLO is the Soldano 4x12 with stock Eminence speakers ...killer sounding 4x12!

Anyone ever try the Eminence Private Jack speakers? From what I've read they're supposed to be similar to Greenbacks, but it's hard to get a read on them from the sound clips on the Eminence website.

A nice cab with G12-65s

This. Tried mine with all other cabs mentioned, 65s by a mile.

I use my SLO with a 2x12 with Lynchbacks and a Bogner 4x12 with reissue GBs on top and V30s on bottom. I like the V30s the least of the bunch. They don't sound bad, but they don't compliment the SLO's voicing, IMHO. V30s have a brashness that's just part of their character, and the SLO has a brashness in its voicing. That brashness is compounded when pairing the V30 with the SLO. I like both the Greenbacks and the Lynchbacks nearly equally. The GBs are more raw and crunchy whereas the Lynchbacks are smoother and deeper. GBs are more old school/classic, and the Lynhcbacks are more modern.

Your video sounds pretty darn good if those are Vintage 30's (You must have a certain kind like Mesa V30's in there). I've tried Bogner 2x12's and 4x12's and those version of (v30's) just sounded midrangey and flubby.

I ran my SLO through a Marshall TV cab - 25w Greenbacks & it was really nice. Takes away some of the high end shrill you get with the SLO

I like my SLO through Greenback flavored cabs best (tried V30s, T75's, stock Soldano cab). I have two of those old circa 70's cabs and find the blackback cab to be amazing for crunch and rhythm tones with the SLO and the Greenback M12 cab to be ideal for lead stuff.

I had an EVH 4x12 that sounded good, but the 65s were far and away the winner for me. Older JCM 800 cabs with 75s sound close to 65s, I have one from 85 and when I A/B that and my 82 800 cab with 65s they are very close. Surprisingly good mids and not scooped like 75s usually sound.

I should add that I always have a V30 cab around, and I can make it work with any amp I've had..just drop the hell out of the mids on an SLO or a Marshall.

I just picked up a metro cab with greenbacks. It has been the perfect fit for my slo out of any other cab I have tried. Tames the highs a bit.

Überkab worked good. 65s sound good. I liked the oversized Mesa slant straight. Didn't love the small soldano cabs but two of them together was good. I hear the 2x12 is better. A Marshall with greenbacks will definitely sound good

Stay away from the OEM Soldano cabs , they sound thin with no ass imo .
I prefer Marshall style bottom cabinets the best with either the SLO or Hot Rod amps , they just sound better and pure RNR .
Greenbacks for old school rock or EVM12L's for modern tones works for me .
There is a reason why you don't see most pro's using the Soldano cabinets , if they were that great they would'nt be using Marshall style cabinets on stage .
From Eric Clapton to Gary Moore to Warren DeMartini to George lynch to Warren Haynes and so forth , what do you see , Marshall cabinets with Celestion"s or EVM12L speakers with their Soldano amps .
And those are just a few artist mentioned of many out there .

I've got my eye on a very cool JCM 800 cab from the early 80s. Looks like it's been around the block a few thousand times! Bet it sounds amazing...

I had a Soldano 4x12 with Eminence Legends. It sounded good with my SLO, but not with any of my other heads, which is why I sold it. I have an EVH 4x12 with the stock speakers up top and V30s in the bottom and the SLO kills through that cab. It's also great through my Marshall AHW with Greenbacks. I have played it through 1960As and Bs with the 75s and it sounded fine, but nothing special.
