By the way, I've got my SLO running on Tung Sol 7581A reissue tubes right now, and it's putting out about 120w. I was reading the description of the M75-PVC speakers on the scumback website. I had no idea paper voice coil speakers could spark and catch fire. I would probably need two 6x12 cabs!
I have the 7581's in my soldano also but i doubt your getting that much wattage.
Higher rated tubes alone wont make an amp push that kind of wattage , the transformer output and design will decide that .
Mike states his 100w heads are actully putting out about 95w , remember this is American rating and not the way Brittish amps are rated like Marshall's are .
Mine is putting out about 105w with 7581A's .

I'm no expert, that's for sure. I'm just repeating what The Man himself said (I had it in a couple months ago for a tuneup).

Regardless, it sounds awesome and I love it!

I'm really loving my Splawn cab with my SLO. It seems to tame a bit of the highs when up at gigging volume. I can't believe I waited so long to get a Soldano. So worth it.

Yep. I have a Splawn 4X12 loaded with the Scumback M75-PVC 65 watts and love my SLO with it. I also have a Marshall 1960BX from the mid 90's loaded with four Scumback BM75 65 watts and love it with it. Between my Greenback, Scumbacks, Eminence Legends, and WGS Retro 30s I like the SLO with the M75 PVCs in either my two Avatar 2X12 cabs or my Splawn 4X12 cab the best. Really about any "greenbackish" type of speaker with the SLO is pretty stinking good in my book, but opinions vary I guess. Some people love the SLO with Vintage 30s, which is cool, there are no rules and it's all personal preference, but I don't like it with V30s.

I definitely need to get a greenback loaded cab. I thought about swapping my speakers out in the Splawn for creamback or greenbacks. I currently have the original man-o-war/governor x pattern in there.

I tell you, at the risk of sounding like a shill (I SWEAR I'm not associated with Scumback in any way whatsoever) if you want greenback flavor and higher power handling than 25 watts the M75, M75-PVC, or BM75 in 65 watts are hard to beat for the price. I have a quad of Celestion 65 watt Creambacks too and they are great greenback flavored speakers. Some of the super heavy brutalz guys say they aren't tight enough on low end, but they are tighter than a regular 25 watt Celestion greenback and have a bit more low end than regular greenbacks. Anyway, the creambacks are really good in my experience, I'm not knocking them at all, but for the price of new greenbacks or creambacks from Celestion I will take the Scumbacks with factory break in ANY day of the week and twice on Sunday. No question and no debate about it. The M75-PVC and the BM75 both in 65 watts are the two coolest flavors of greenback type speakers I have ever heard. I don't even use any of my other speakers anymore and haven't for a year since I got the Scumbacks and I've been a die hard greenback guy for a long time.

Which would you pick for 80's tones? I play hair rock and gig at SLO on 3-4 levels. If I'm reading it all the right way, m75-pvc would be your choice? All in or x pattern with something else? Thank you

Well, for me personally I'd pick at least one cab full of each! LOL. Here is the thing, I have 2 Avatar Contemporary 2X12 closed back cabs loaded with the BM75s and two more cabs exactly the same loaded with M75-PVC. I also have a Splawn 4X12 loaded with M75-PVC, and a Marshall 1960BX 4X12 loaded with BM75s. I have never mixed the BM75 and the M75-PVC in the same cab, but I strongly suspect they would sound great together because I have mixed my cabs together doing stereo and W/D/W and they compliment each other great. Those two speakers aren't a great deal different. The BM75s have a little less bass and it is tighter and more percussive. The BM75s also have just a little sharper upper mids and highs. Not V30 type of upper mid spike, just a little more sharp and pronounced. With my BE-100 I prefer the BM75s. They are freaking perfect for the BE-100 I think. For the SLO I tend to prefer the M75-PVCs. They are a little smoother in the upper mids and highs and have a little more bottom end. Still tight bottom end for rock and old school metal. The video of mine you watched bugs me because the low end on the M75PVCs is tighter than that video makes it sound. That camera mic distorts low end way too easy and I can't get it to not do it so far.

The only video I have of the BM75s is with my Landry G3 doing W/D/W. It is crap playing and another crappy mic (this was my phone mic) but all 3 cabs are BM75s. This is also a different amp, so take that all into account. The Landry G3 sounds awesome with every speaker I hook it up to. I don't know why, but that amp likes all speakers for some reason.

That amp sounds massive. Thanks for all the help. I'm gonna try some Scumbacks

Awesome. Whatever you choose I'd go with 65 watters for filling a 4X12 and playing your SLO on 3 or 4. Then you'll never have to worry about burning them up. I hope you love them. If you are a greenback type of guy I don't see how you couldn't love them! It looks like Scumback is offering free break in right now, so that is cool and helps some. I think his break in is absolutely worth it. I'm going to try to record a clip of my project plexi I have been tinkering with and running on a variac tonight. I've been rebuilding the amp and going for the old school late 70's and early 80's VH tones with it. It will be running through the M75-PVCs. If I can get it done I will post a clip of it.

I use my SLO with a 2x12 with Lynchbacks and a Bogner 4x12 with reissue GBs on top and V30s on bottom. I like the V30s the least of the bunch. They don't sound bad, but they don't compliment the SLO's voicing, IMHO. V30s have a brashness that's just part of their character, and the SLO has a brashness in its voicing. That brashness is compounded when pairing the V30 with the SLO. I like both the Greenbacks and the Lynchbacks nearly equally. The GBs are more raw and crunchy whereas the Lynchbacks are smoother and deeper. GBs are more old school/classic, and the Lynhcbacks are more modern.

I can't quite relate personally to how it sounds with an SLO, but I will agree completely on the GB and Lynchback comparison. I run a pair of Lynchbacks in a 2x12 as well as a 4x12 with GB up top and V30 on bottom. I keep saying this but its worth repeating that I feel the Lynchbacks are like a great mix of GB and V30s in it's design, and I have often said that the Lynchbacks feel and sound like a very modern sounding Greenback.

I also have a Soldano 4x12 straight cab that originally had the stock Soldano/Eminence speakers. My (modded) Jet City 100H is the closest to an SLO that I can compare to, and I never cared for the stock Soldano speakers. Perhaps they weren't broken in yet, but just suffered from the 'wet blanket syndrome' I felt. Tried Scumbag (Weber blue frames) G12M25/H30 equivalents for a while, not as full sounding as I had hoped. Tried V30s, and even tried all Eminence Legends for a while. Ended up going back to V30s in that cab, while my Egnater 4x12 has the GB/V30 combo now.
