5150III 50w...Made in Vietnam?!

I would not personally care to own an amp made in Mexico or Vietnam (I have some silverware from there and it isn't too hot either).

At the end of the day, all this amounts to is getting the right amount of $$$ in Eddie's pocket. I guess you could get a good product made as noted above if everything is spec'd out correctly and overseen by someone who knows whats going on.

Doesn't Mr. Friedman do Ed's pedalboard/rack set-up? How could you be so close to a 'holy grail' amp and not be onboard with that?

Yeah, dude. They're gonna be huge piles of shit.

The current ones are, I expect more of the same.
Your kidding right? I see you have a Ampeg VL 503 listed in your sig..THAT was one of the most bug ridden amps I've ever owned and WOW GasP it was made right here in good ole the US and still was a total POS   It sucked so much that I tossed it where it belonged=in the trash. "Superior US products" :bleh: :loco: Whatever.

I've beat the hell out of my Made in Korea Orange TT and never had a bit of trouble after 4+ years of use/abuse.

I have 2 actually. You are right after 18 years, hundreds of sets, and thousands of hours, they now have some issues. What pieces of crap. The 5150 III is still a mess, and I am sure the Vietnam children will bring the quality up to snuff. The Premiere Guitar magazine article that just came out says Made in the USA, guess they are keeping these things under wrap. I don't care where an amp is made, as long as it sounds good and is road worthy. The EVH is neither.

I hesitate to chime in on this riveting discussion, but I was just thumbing through the new Guitar Player and they have a write up on the EVH brand new gear. They have the 5150III made in USA. Mistake? Lie?

That article is the foundation of this thread. At least it was supposed to be   If you look closely at the pic of the back of the amp it says, "MADE IN VIETNAM". So yeah, the chart on the previous page says, "MADE IN USA". I think it was a CONSCIENCE overlook because I think FMC paid for this article as well as the cover. Articles/Reviews like this are just large advertisements.

Well, I must be very lucky. The EVH has been my #1 amp for 4 years and has had NO major problems. And its one of the dreaded "early models", first 500. I have played countless gigs/practices and toted it half-way across the country and back without a backup. Never had an issue. I have never heard of all this tragedy surrounding the amp like you apparently have heard. Give some examples please. If you can't than we'll put it to rest as heresay.

P.S. When I did have an issue with the footswitch cable a very kind and knowledgable tech from FMC immediately got on the horm and resolved the situation.

If I was in the market for one I would be curious to because I am one of those consumer racists

I talked with the guy who does the guitar shows for EVH gear. That dude on the tone king video.
He told me that the first 50 watters that they got in from overseas were equipped with trannys that were built by the company putting the amps together. They were supposed to be equipped with actual EVH trannys. It was a miscommunication, he said.
He also said that they sound great, and that Ed used the 50 watter on about 75% of the new record.
And that Ed was a very sweet, kind guy.
I'm ready for the new record.
And I'll probably check out these 50 watters when they start turning up used.

Just got an update from GC for anyone who is interested. They said the amp is expected in the warehouse on 12/9.
