How many of you like the big ass 3 button footswitch? How many of you actually turn on/off the loop?
Well that thing is way too big for me and I’m certainly not gonna use up valuable pedalboard space for it. So I just want to use a small two button footswitch I have that I use for pretty much everything. It uses a TRS cable and the Peavey obviously uses a 7 pin DIN cable. I found to places that make a 7 pin DIN to TRS cable but they were way too expensive for me. So I decided to make my own.
I found some info on the pin layout and stuff but it didn’t really help my simple meat and potatoes brain. I just wanted to know what color wires needed to be connected to what. That’s the information I couldn’t find so I had to grab a handful of alligator clips and figure it out. The factory Peavey cable is easy to figure out which color wires go to which pins since the connector can be partially disassembled, but I still had to figure out the rest by trial and error. With 7 wires there’s a lot of possible combinations.
Anyways, I did figure it out. I made a short cable with the 7 pin connector at one end and a female TRS connector at the other. I can plug it into the back of the amp and then use any length of TRS cable I want between it and the footswitch.
I also bought a cheaper 7 pin DIN cable off Amazon for like $11. Unfortunately they use different color wires connected to different pins. So I had had to figure this out too. So now I can use my two button footswitch to switch from rhythm to lead with the left bottom and clean to crunch with the right button. If I happen to use a TS cable with it or a standard one button footswitch, it will switch between Lead and Rhythm.
