A friend of mine recently returned a bootleg tape that I had loaned him of my favorite local band of the 80's . Not only was he was cool enough to return it to me after years of having it, he even burn it on to a CD for me!!
The Bands name was Devias (yes.. they spelled it that way!)
These guys were as good as if not better then any of the LA signed acts IMHO. They sounded like Dokken with Michael sweet singing lol.
They were on the verge of getting signed and passed on a few record deals which ultimetly lead to members of the band leaving to persue other options (The Lead guitar player went to play for Doro and is now the lead guitar player of Dokken and the Bass player went on to play for Wendy O williams ,Vinnie Moore ,Joe Lynn turner Alice cooper and a slew of others)

The reason for the thread is,
What local band was in your area who you felt should have made it but never did?

Honky. Pinkus was the bass player in Butthole Surfers but then Gibby decided to get all technoed out or something. :scared:

But they put on an incredible show!

Cool!!

The thing about Devias was that they were so ahead of any of the local bands out in the 80's accept for maybe 2 other bands. The Guitar player John Levin was my favorite guitar player back then and when everyone was searching for a decent tone, John had it in spades along with chops from hell and he was only 19 at the time I saw them!!

Put the CD online ya bastard! :D

Only local guys I can think of actually made it big. Tesla

Joined Forces with Jimi Bell on guitar.

He was endorsed by Kramer and his band was in the Movie Light of Day with Joan Jett and Michael J Fox, his band was the metal one that Joan joined :D I spoke with them and the director had them tone it WAY down as the band was just flat out shred.

He is the inventor of the Shredneck as well.

I'll zip it up and put it online. you will swear that you are listening to a young Warren Demartini/ george Lynch with more attitude

3 of my favorite local bands from NYC were

SmokeScreen -
Eddie Evilan on guitar.
Gary Sullivan on Drums.

Dissonance
They had a Guitar Player Named Matt. This band was amazing real technical.

There was another band called Top Hat
Gary Jiminez on Drums
and Don Jiminez on Guitar. Great players as well.

I grew up in Baton Rouge... there were a couple of local bands that I thought had "it," but never made it.

Terra - shred metal
Bone China - funk metal somewhere between ST and AIC

In Minneapolis we had a few really good metal bands. My 2 favorites were:

- Scream Parade. Excellent! The guitar player kicked ass and is now in a band called 57 Stitch.
- Powermad. They got signed and were getting pretty well known. Excellent metal band!

oh yeah, bonus point for anyone who guesses the gear used for his tone!! :D

The American Tragedy.... Tightest band I've ever seen, period, signed and unsigned... Feel kinda fortunate that I got to see them a lot for $5/show, but kinda sad they never got a national release.
