What kind of EQ?

It was an Old Boss EQ that had red glowing Lights on it. The amp was bone stock but sounded like it was on fire!!

There was a band called Bad Dog that was Jeff Martin's band after Racer X kicked him out because none of the labels thought he was "pretty enough" to front a band back then. Bad Dog was Jeff Martin on vocals with Russ Parrish on guitar and they were killer but only lasted a few months.

Then there was a band called Ana Black that was from Canada and unfortunately they got to LA to late as grunge was already hitting. They looked like a cross between Too Fast For Love era Crue and witches. The two guitarists both were pretty ripping. One of the guys had huge jet black hair, was pale as ghost and had a tattoo on the back of his picking hand of the bones in his hand. So basically it looked like a skeleton hand playing guitar under the lights. The other guy had really long jet black hair with long grey streaks in it. He literally looked like a scary old witch. These guys sounded like that trashy early Crue sound with shred guitar playing and lots of harmonies. They got huge here really quick and they had a ton of money behind them. The record companies didn't care because they were playing yesterdays style. The first time they played the Roxy, they had like five, 20' tall plywood cutouts of each member air brushed standing out on the sidewalk in front of the Roxy. Everyone was freaking because with all the wild stuff everyone in LA did to get noticed they were at another level because of all the money their backer had.

Gimmicky? Yeah, but they could play and they were entertainers unlike the bands that killed them off. If you look how high the witch is wearing his guitar and look at the hands on skull tattoo boy, you can just tell they were players AND posers. There were plenty of posers who couldn't play.

I remember going to LA in 1988 with the singer of my band and one of my best friends and we just freaked out. It was beyond our wildest expectations and I told my singer that we needed to move out to LA because we were wasting out time in NY for the type of music that we played. Other Bands I knew moved to LA in 1989 and they were quickly greated by the change in the music scene and came back to NY in like 92 or so.
Had I not been such a newb when I was younger, I would have moved to LA in 1984-5.
Im just glad that I got to experiance the strip before it changed!! Went back in 89 and 90

I grew up in Baton Rouge... there were a couple of local bands that I thought had "it," but never made it.

Terra - shred metal
Bone China - funk metal somewhere between ST and AIC

Hrm, interesting.... What time frame was that? I'm a BR kid too.

Terra was around 86-88
Bone China hit their stride in the early 90s. They broke up in 94 I believe. Great band!

Ah, before my time, but sounds cool.

Dave, is he any relation to TT Boy?

Dont know who that is?

TT Quick was a metal band in Central Jersey. The guitar player was named best unsigned guitar player by one of the major guitar magazines. He was one of Zakk Wylde's guitar teachers, but can totally blow Zakk away.

Here are some of their songs...(shitty copy)

Great band ! I was jamming along to Metal of Honor on cassette last weekend

I also love HONKY and go see them everytime they make it up to Dallas. That is the way rock n' roll should be played
