Someone posted this in the general forum but its all Diezel babay!
that marshall you see is a security blanket, we know it sucks.

lol the Marshall has more to do with his sound than the Diezel... :)

Outside of the two Les Pauls and VH4's, looks like a bunch of crap to me.

Keep telling yourself that, count the diezels...

The silverface is only a back-up. No hate to diezel but it's only atop those mesa cabs, supposedly, because the band felt it fit better in the mix. Adam may still be with his early DR mesa if it were up to only him... who knows.

lol, Opiate = Marshall. Undertow = Marshall. Aenema = Marshall + D.R. Lateralus = Marshall + VH4. 10,000 Days = Marshall + a shit tone of other amps.

See a pattern? The Marshall is the inherent foundation of his sound. He's even said numerous times that the VH4 is more about the low-end and higher gain settings than anything else. The 2nd VH4 is merely a backup in case the Blueface breaks down.

He could still play and get his "sound" with just the Marshall. Not the case with the VH4. The Marshall is all mids and high end. His other amp, whether it's a VH4, Rectifier, Rivera, Bogner, Sunn or Peavy is the "icing" on the cake that provides a bit more of a modern feel to his sound.

People seem to fixate on the VH4 a lot for some reason, myself included. But it's pretty freakin' obvious that his Marshall is the core of his sound. The VH4 just doesn't have enough mids and it's incredibly compressed and bass-heavy. Don't get me wrong, I love my VH4. It's a great amp. But you're delusional if you think the VH4 is what gives him that unique tone. It's all in the modified Superbass.

Hell, check out those live clips of Tool at JC Dobbs on Youtube. That is all 100% Marshall and the sound just melts your face off. It's just a Les Paul straight into a cranked JMP.

My partner Peter Stapfer was on stage with Adam to check
out the amps and cabinets.

To know the truth send an email to peterstapfer (at) diezelamplification (dot) com

Hi Peter can you have him post the info here so that way 100 people from this forum don't fill up his E-mail box.

Is he still using Ruby 6l6GCs in his Blueface?

Blueface is a mid heavy amp. Even Peter will tell you this.

Never really got into Opiate... but, I actually preferred this live version over the CD version...

i agree, the marshall its his beloved amp, but, the vh4 is a very important part of his sound, i dont know his settings but, the vh4 +marshall is a very intelligent combination, diezel high gain, bottom and bassmids, and marshall highmids and treble....and definition.
he clean everything with the volume...so its not a very high gain guy.

and most important, tool is a single guitar band...so he must cover a lot of frecuencies...

10.000 days has diezel, not only bogners and sunns, and vht...barresi has a huge colection of amps, and adam said that he was very impressed about bogners...but we dont see in live...so...

and more misterious thing to the theme...i heard once that he putted his amps in a cool space( freeze) between tours to preserve components...anyone knows something?

Hahaha, well which one of us is emailing Peter 2 because Papa just dropped a bomb of curiosity!

Just came across this and thought it to be a little odd...
This is a link to a picture off of tool shed down saying it's from lollapalooza 97, which ws a year after the release of aenima...
You can clearly see his superbass, dual recto, and blueface vh4... interesting.

Yes that is what he used from 96 till 2001 or 2002. I think he was running all three at the same time or the Dual was a backup.

I stuck my Superbass in the freezer, my amp tech said that it should cost around 500 to fix providing the OTs is not damaged.

ok ok....i just only heard this freak history, :gethim: , dont hit me.

It's funny how the Marshall Superbass is SAID to be the most important part of Adams sound, yet opiateofthemasses on YOUTUBE has the tone DIALED on his Diezel Herbert.

Not to mention I have seen his TOOL tribute band Lateralus, and the tone WAS there!

So... IS the Marshall REALLY a huge factor?

I think NOT.

Buy a Diezel, VH4 or Herbert, a cab loaded with Celestion V30'S and you are CLOSE!

I am in the process of saving!!!
