He was one of the first people to record with a Rectifier and they were a pretty huge part of Tool’s sound for a few albums. More recently they’ve been seen in the studio and on his live backline.

I’d say it’s as crucial to his tone overall as the Marshall or Diezel are, and the fact he’s been one of the earliest Rectifier users (as well as a Les Paul die hard), it makes sense for them to take advantage.
 
I remember seeing him playing with a chrome chassis blackface. Only remember that because he turned around to adjust some dials while jamming. Other than that I only remember seeing it a few times in some early pics.
