Advice wanted on Randall MTS modified modules

I don't think you're in the minority, plenty around these parts find WGS sub-standard. I, personally, really like them. Speakers, as almost everything related to tone, is subjective.
 
The Diablo and Chuba are totally different beasts- enjoy!
Rossness- I can't believe you didn't like the MashAll---can u talk more about this English Angel? Is the English on a switch or just a tweak on the overall tone?
 
I think you are right on the donor module prices. I was going to get a JF XTC with one of his donor modules. The Salvation donor modules look about right from the price list. But when you send in a module there is $20 shipping, and $30 duty that gets charged back to you. That is part of the reason Salvation mods are so expensive, but form what I have heard the quality makes up for it.

+1 on that. And sorry for the confusion on the donor cost of Salvations. I must have just applied the Jaded Faith cost to Salvation. My apologies.
 
When you take in account the $50 in fees, and shipping it is like getting the module for $130. I am kind of surprised that no one has come out with an aftermarket empty PCBs. There are enough moders out there to create a demand...I think that might be a business idea...Maybe a three tube version!!!!
 
I tried a bunch of Salvation Modules at the Nashville amp expo. I was a bit disappointed. Their clips sound great, but you never really know what is in the signal path of online clips. I have a Gigmods SL+ that I'm really happy with, and a 1086 that I'm going to mod myself for more gain. I've been really happy with the plain old Randall Clean module. Very Fenderish.
 
I modded some of my own modules.. I love the stock brahma, Hilligan SL+ I have, and my modded Brahma. Awesome tones. I also have a JF SLO which is a little too similar to my other modules for me so it will be moving soon. Truth be told for any amp, a lot of MArshallish tube amps can be dialed in similarly. We get "gear vision" and keep hunting when in reality we are already there...

Here are some clips I did recently.. dialed in the modules similarly because this is the best way to gauge differences. They all sound good to my ear. Do I need all of them? Prob not. At the end of the day though, the modular series are a great idea for something like a clean- a crunch- and an overdrive/lead or fender/marshall/vox/recto.

Modules are my JFSLO-Judge-Brownstone (modded brahma) for rythms, then it repeats 1-2-3 for noodling.

I think these sound as good as any clips of expensive amps I hear out there. For those of you who have already heard this over at grailtone sorry for the repeat!
 
The RM50 is here. Now I just have to wait for the modules, and I also ordered a demo Scumback XH75-LHDC speaker for it.

My Mak4 sounds great into the FX return. I have never really been a fan of the T75 speakers, but I haven't had one for quite a while. It sounds pretty good. Can't wait to get the scumback in there!!!!
 
I am still waiting for the Scumback speaker, and the modules, but I will been picking up a guitars to help complete my overhaul.

I am working on a PRS CE22 with a fixed bridge, this has been on my want list for about 6-7 years, but with the fixed bridge they are rare!!!

Now I really can't wait to get my modules, and scumback!!!!!
 
Regarding Voodoo Modded modules - For what it's worth we have a RM100 loaded with Ruby 6L6GCMSTR's and ARS12AX7's (balanced tubes in the FX-Loop and PI position). That is what we use when voicing our Modded modules. I have heard the RM20 and it's not to my liking. IE: I've never been a fan of high gain modules with EL84 power tubes. We tried EL34's in the RM100 (as I am an fan of the EL34's) but it seemed to sound better with the Ruby 6L6GCMSTR's biased at 60% (not 60mV--lol). I think if you have a RM50 or RM100 with that tube set up it will work well for you (modded modules or stock modules). I say this having experimented with countless different tubes. I hope it helps.

Regarding settings on the RM50/RM100. We run the Master, Presence and Density at 12:00 then adjust each modules Master until you have the desired volume you need. If you lower the RM50/RM100's Master (and turn up the modules master volume/Level) things to get more noisy (again modded or stock). Again, I hope it helps

If you like the Recto Mod I think you would really enjoy the Tsumani Mod as well. Did you experiment with the Internal Gain Trim pots on the Recto Modded module? That will alter the tone, gain and feel a great deal. There are usually two (2) trim pots.
