Aftermarket tuner issues

I just installed a set of Grover 502C locking tuners on my Ltd EC-256. The B string tuner rattles fairly loudly whenever I play the open B string. I double checked my install, and checked that everything's tight. The other issue is that the G, B, and E strings don't fully sit in the nut anymore, but I checked and the string hole looks to be more or less in the same place as the stock tuners... Has anyone had either of those problems before?

Edit- the rattling isn't coming from the nut problem, it's for sure from the tuner

My brother pointed out it's likely because locking tuners push the string to the top of the hole, whereas on the stock (non locking) tuners, the string is wrapped to below the hole

Was my first thought. A lot of tuners are offered in different post lengths and/or staggered.

Check to see first if the ones you have are marked for string position.

I'll check that I did notice that they were numbered 1 or 2, but but no other numbers at a glance

I get as much string on the Peg as I can without overlapping for the most part..
Helps to get the string to lay down more..

Oh yeah, there's a huge difference from the hole down to where your string actually comes off the tuner... I wonder if I should almost just swap mine for the non-locking variant

Just string it up with some 15's. It will be fine.

Throw them in the garbage and get Gotohs. That's what I use to replace Grovers. They have a shorter post and designed to achieve a better break angle at the nut.

Ahh I just ordered the non locking Grover's last night. May as well try those, if they suck I'll put in an order for Gotoh's

Can't go wrong with the Gotohs. Made in Japan vs. Chinese, and they're 1/16" shorter than non-locking.

Aren't Grover's made in the US?
