I seen Loudness and TNT open for Stryper in 87'.. Akira and Ronnie smoked
I saw that tour in Dayton. Slept thru Stryper though. Way down front for Loudness and TNT though.

Saw Loudness a few years ago in Detroit before the drummer died. Akira played loud as hell thru two DSL halfstacks and a Boss GT 8 pedal..sounded like he always does. Just doesnt play as good as he used to.

Yeah, Akira is definitely aging when it comes to guitar playing, but he can still tear it up. The guy has always been a huge influence on me, but pretty much everything after the On the Prowl record kinda sucks. I've heard him play through Mesas, Marshalls, ADAs... He always sounds the same with that super aggressive midrange he loves. I think part of it might be those coveted greenback Marshall cabs that he always takes with him.

Yes, and the albums they released after that were even worse. :scared:

He was just using stock 1960a cabs with 75's when I saw them. The first time it was a big rack and Mesa cabs. I think he was getting the majority of his tone from the GT-8 last time.

Thunder in the East and Lightning Strikes I like along with Soldier of Fortune.

I was rockin to this DVD the other night and man did he kick ass!! I know most guitar solos are wankery, but this kicks ass!!!

I used to play Like Hell in a cover band. I like Run for your life too.

I saw Loudness back in the 80's on the Thunder in the East tour at Harpos in Detroit...they killed it. Akria always has a killer Marshall based tone regardless of what he uses.

To resurrect this thread... As far as Akira's gear in 1985. I know the guitar, the Duncan '59 in the rear...but what amps and pedals?
I've seen studio pics at Sunset Sound he is using a JMP Plexi... but not sure what. All I know is it sounded similar to Van Halen, but the mids just punch through the mix consistently... I can imitate his picking and whatnot, but that 'sound'. Live video from Allentown, PA exemplifies this great sound he got 'live'.
There is a huge rack next to his Marshall stacks, also in the Sunset Sound photo, of God knows whats in it.

His sound and his style are super cool...I actually heard Esper first..before I heard anything off Thunder in the East.
But once I heard that chunky crunchy riff on Crazy Nights..I was into him. Kinda like if you merged the best guys at the time into SchenkGilbersteen..

I saw them open for AC/DC on the Who Made Who tour at the Nassau Coliseum. I was really into them back then, still love them. I saw Akira at the ESP booth at NAMM a few years ago. There had to be 500 people in that room and it erupted when he walked in. It was nice to see him get that hero's welcome. He is an undisputed badass.

This is a great thread. I bought Live Loud Alive in 83 and have followed him ever since. Great player, great tone. They went south in the 90's but so what. He's awesome
Yeah. That was my intro to Loudness as well. What a great f_cking live document.

Always loved that dude. Hes forgot more than I will ever know on guitar.

I really love his tone on Soldier of Fortune. He used a Metaltronix amp on that.
Another Japanese band with several great guitarists is Seikima-II. People who like Loudness and Anthem will definitely dig them.
