When I first started playing, Al was one of the guys who seemed to me to almost have a superhuman picking hand, back when that's what got my attention. I probably developed my picking technique more from what I knew of him than Yngwie or any of the other shredders, at least at first.

i remember hearing Yngwie’s Hot on your Heels solo for the first time on the radio after newly being gobsmacked by DiMeola a few month prior, and thinking YJM was like a perfect blend of Al exotic scales and alternate picking precision, Schenker eurorock energy, and Uli classical influence, big vibrato and hendrix attitudes!

I just checked out Hot on your Heels for the first time. Unreal. Thanks for mentioning it!

You’re not allowed to bring this up as a possibility. Tow the line young man…
Not in the main gear sections, no he’s not. Leave it in OT. But being that OT is on borrowed time I’ll go out on a limb and predict that we start seeing this shit everywhere. Hopefully the mods will clean up all the shit the turds track all over the forum with the fucking ban hammer.

Words really do hurt people these days it seems. Too hard to just ignore things you don’t like or disagree with.

Thank goodness we can all police what we say all the time now. It’s the sign of strong, confident, assured people when they police what they say and post for fear of hurting feelings or causing disagreements. How strong we are!

Last time I saw him was about six years ago. I have been into him since I think 1976.
83 with the super trio was the first and best time,

20 years later opening for Robben Ford and Larry Carlton in 2003 at the Sun in Anaheim but he was all world music’ed out with reverbed nose flutes wind chines and free time conga flurries via backing tracks

last time was 2017 at the Blue Note and his Les Paul/Fuchs electric guitar tone was bizarre ala playing race with the devil using fender champ like clean tone, but his acoustic mastery was and will always be his strongest suit.

i love that i just happened to have stumbled onto that track and yjm one night in high school while listening to a popular 98 rock radio show in hawaii. the girl dj randomly made it her pick of the week for best up and coming underground album mostly because she thought the guitar player ripped and looked cute on the album cover. and lets face it ron keel was not a vocal juggernaut. but the switchboard lit up and the rest was history.

she even referenced that moment discussing yngwie during an in studio interview a year later with graham bonnett, who was in town to world premiere the alcatrazz no parole album that day and announced a future concert in hawaii. again i randomly happened to be listening to that moment too so i was aware of yngwie from the jump!

This is the post that triggered the off-topic "debate". There's nothing wrong with it; it's innocuous IMHO. Quoted here only for reference as it was the trigger point.

Take that stuff to OTC if you like guys. If it persists here this thread will be moved, which'd be a shame.
@VonBonfire just letting you know that I added to the first line to help make it clear that I didn't think you'd done anything "wrong".

It was the trigger point on the timeline is all. Peeps should have been able to let that one go IMHO.

OTC solved that problem Paul, so in this regard it's preferable that it remains.

Behaviour in the main sub-forum is always better when OTC is there as an outlet.

I agree, but it SEEMS as though a few guys want to drag otc bs out into the main forum where it’s generally frowned upon, and JBT’s recent rant post about preferring otc dies seems to be foreshadowing a future event… in which case you guys will be cleaning up shit all over the place.

I knew where you were coming from and typed up a longer answer Paul, splitting the quote up, but chose instead to focus on the second part for brevity and the sake of the thread.

He was just getting his frustration off his chest brother. As I've said elsewhere I'm prepared to take care of the sub-forum on-my-own (I've taken care of the entire site for extended periods when it's been necessary) if it ever turns out that all the other mods give up on it, which they won't. It won't be a problem.

Agreed 100% MM. guys on both sides of this and other polarizing subjects have got to learn to just let people speak and feel as they feel.

Trying to shut down another member because you disagree is just rediculous.

Yep, and it's not like he said much, only that he'd heard he was vax'd and hoped he'll be OK.

It reveals where he stands on that issue but it read like it was just his initial reaction to the news.
