Use sparingly!

Doesn't Petroleum Distillate simply mean a substance distilled from petroleum? As Mineral Oil is derived from petroleum, isn't it then a Petroleum Distillate? So then don't both the Roche Thomas AND Fret Doctor fingerboard treatments contain Petroleum Distillates?
Neither Fret Doctor nor mineral oil have any petroleum distillates. Fret Doctor is a blend of exotic plant oils...you could put it on your salad. Mineral oil is a by-product of distillation...it is not the distilate itself. Neither is flammable or toxic.blackba":3m7ricbr said:Duckman":3m7ricbr said:Sorry to reopen an old thread, but I am confused...

I don't believe fret doctor has mineral oil and/or petroleum distillates.
I will say the fret doctor works great. I use the lemon oil to clean and then the fret doctor after that. With the Dunlop Ultimate 65 lemon oil the fretboard looked good, but would be slightly oily after I applied it. I don't have that issue with the fret doctor. I have now used the fret doctor on 5 guitars and really like the product...
Another product that contains pd's...it will make your fretboard look great but it won't condition dry wood. I wouldn't use the stuff but if you do I would recommend using as a cleaner only...don't let it sit for any length of time and penetrate the surface pores. Once it does that, it can act as a barrier to a true conditioning oil.Chris O":1dwamwmt said:I've been using Gerlitz Guitar Honey Fretboard conditioner with very good results.

I have been using Dunlop Ultimate 65 Lemon oil and been pleased. Has anyone used Almond oil? This is the first time I have heard of it mentioned....
