Amps in Stereo...ABY Switch or more too it?

I just talked to my guitarist about this. He runs a stereo rig through the Helix. There is a block under modulation called Double Take that does the same thing. I'm going to have him try it through his Helix for a better stereo image (even though he's panned to one side in my mix). Through his ears and FOH, it would be like two tracks.

yup, theres a lot of things you can do, panning both to one side makes blending amps a lot easier when recording.

a regular aby sends the same signal to both amps, the mimiq alters one of the signals to "mimiq" the nuances of laying down two tracks so its kind of like jamming with yourself as the second guitar player when its on. basically it lets you double track with one take. you cant switch between amps though
Been looking at the Mimiq. It sounds super cool. Some good videos from manufacture on Sweetwater's product page.

So my only concern is: Are there any noise or phase issues?

Others point out that I probably wanted ABY pedal with the following: ground lift, buffer, and phase switch. This pedal obviously doesn't have those.

Any issues for you?

It’s great man, I been preaching about it for a while, if you have two amps it’s a must have to me, you’ll never want to play without it again. I have two half stacks in a room separated about the same distance they would be in a band and it’s just fun and inspiring to play. You get that thing and you’ll enjoy both amps at once, not playing one at a time

RaceU4her was the one who turned me onto the Mimiq, with this track

https://app.box.com/embed/s/2f7l5b9mwxbia0qdcxrs8nimxeru93eoI hope that worked. This is RaceU4her's clip.

The Mimiq has 2 inputs so I can still hook my ABY box up in front of it so I can still do traditional ABY but as mentioned, once you start running 2 amps together it is hard to go back to just one. Its addicting.

Here is a quick clean clip I just did. Now you can't really here the 'dubs' but you can hear how it spreads out your sound. And that is with two cabinets pretty close together. The way the algorithm works in the Mimiq it is literally tricking your brain.

I use a Framptone 3 amp switcher and it’s awesome. I always blend 2 heads for main tone ( wizard MTL2 and Diezel Herbert) and then have a Boogie Electrodyne for my cleans . A great box and is not noisy . And grounding options

I tried it. Was hard for my dumb ass to dial it in. Kept fucking with the eq.
Haha
This video is about 10 years old or so. Ran the stereo thru a pedal ABY.

Sounded really FAT THICK
But prefer the single head through two 4x12 cabs

Be careful with phase relationships. Every gain stage in an amp flips the phase 180 degrees. For example, running one amp with 3 gain stages will be out of phase with another that is using 4 gain stages. Or, say you have two amps with each one running 3 gain stages as your main tone. Fine, until you switch channels on one of them and then this other channel adds or removes a gain stage. Then it'll be out phase. The only way to counter this is a device with a programmable phase reversal function, or run a programmable loop switcher (ones typically used for FX switching before the amp where every pedal is in its own loop) and have a specific pedal or something that will reverse the phase when kicked in. That way it can be programmed to be in the signal path when mismatched gain stages between various amps in are play, and out when its not needed.

Glad I'm into mono setups.

Yeah it was tricky. I gave up after several hours.
One amp. Two 4x12s. Still huge.

I ran a vh4 and jvm in stereo with the send or thru jack out the front of the vh4, not sure if your amp has that feature. in the old days i used a boss digital delay and tried to duplicate what that mimiq pedal does. IT WAS FUCKING GLORIOUS MAN!!!!

Personally, I don't like mixing tones unless it's two channels of the same amp.

Yeah that's why I was asking RaceU4her about the lack of Phase switching.

Sounds like I may still need an ABY pedal with a phase switcher based on what you are saying. 311Spawndude seems to run that first then the Mimiq.

Does ground lift function matter?

Yes… Go into the front end of each amp with the right side of the board - gates, comp & volume pedal run thru Twin City. The left side of the board runs stereo (except ParaEQ goes only to one) into each of the Fx loops.
Ordered a Radial Twin City as well in case the Mimiq causes phase or ground issues. Plus it will be nice to A/B the two amps from time to time.

So thinking Gutiar>Polytune>Ditto Looper>Wah>Twin City>Mimiq>split into the 2 separate amps.

Anything with that not look right?

You might need a ground lift for one of the amps as mentioned, wont know until you try it
