I have a JB in the bridge of my MIJ Charvel San Dimas.

I don't really have any issues with the tone but I'm not exactly in love with it. A little less output and mids and a tighter low-end wouldn't hurt.

I'm looking to get another Duncan pup to replace the JB.

Some of the pups I've been considering are the Custom Custom, Perpetual Burn and the Custom.

How do these pups compare to the JB?

Duncan CUSTOM
It is the tightest of those three and has less output then the JB
The PB is a little too much like a JB lite IMHO

I'm not really looking at DiMarzio at the moment. I have 3 guitars with all DiMarzio pups in them so I wanna try the SD offerings for now.

Have you tried the Custom Custom before?

Custom sounds like it's in the direction you want. You can switch between the Custom and Custom Custom just buying a $5 magnet and swapping it.

BKP Holy Diver is a smokin' pickup firmly in the JB camp.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

Seems like the Custom is indeed the way to go for me. Isn't the Custom, the fabled pup that Seymour made for EVH???

Seymour Duncan Perpetual Burn is what you want

I'd be lying if I said that this pup hasn't piqued my interest.

Do you know how it compares to the Custom?

Custom 5. It's basically a '59 on steroids. It's in my 2015 PS10 Iceman. Raunchy, tight, and articulate.

My other suggestion is a Pearly Gates if you want brighter.

To my ears and the guitar I had them in the Custom was brighter maybe a touch shrill , hotter , bassier , a bit midscooped . The PB was more balanced and open , warmer but still cuts , not as compressed as the Custom (and JB) . If you do indeed want an alternative to the JB the PB is the only one that's done it for me . If you want a big fat balls out pickup that really has no traits of the JB the Custom could be your answer. I actually found the Custom 5 more similar to the JB but that was not in the same guitar I had the Custom and PB in . YMMV

Don't go custom custom..dumbass name...and it's more of what you don't like about the jb.

The San Dimas is on the bright side.
