Anderson Cooper Interviews Alex Van Halen

This has been out for a few months but I did enjoy it! After being quiet for so long Alex really opened up. The part where he says no one really though he was going to die had me in tears.

I was surprised he admitted that Ed was doing a lot of drugs. We all knew it, but nobody ever admitted it.

I read Sammy and Valerie's books.
Sammy gives vivid details of all the partying and how dark it was for Ed toward the end of their time together. Pulling his own teeth out and rants that happened toward others for no apparent reasons all while amped up.

Valeries mentioned how he hid it from her saying he had quit and she found some while on a trip and was not happy. Noel Monk's book also talks about the partying and that by the time 1984 was released drugs had tore the band relationships apart. When 5150 studio was built Ed and Don Landee would lock themselves away for days looking for inspiration with mass 'Peruvian snow'
May have been in Ted Templeman's book?? All great reads!!

Such a shame but would have the music been great without the mass amount of drugs?

Probably. But when you are amped up there is no boredom. He could therefore go days being 'inspired'. Not much different than other rock stars/artists :dunno:

Yeah, I’ve never really thought of him as a confirmed drug addict for some reason. Like, I still have a weird denial going on there. I’m thinking it’s also because he didn’t make talking about it and being an ex user his whole personality and talking point like so many celebrities do these days.

Can’t believe Anderson Cooper is going to the next singer of VH MK IV. Who’s on guitar, Wolfgang Blitzer?

He only provided one of the most widespread “I have a drug habit” meme’s of all time (for a famous musician anyway).

Yeah, but it’s not like he made the meme. He was the subject matter. Also, I deluded myself into thinking he was just an alcoholic.
