LaRocque/Blakk are metal's answer to chocolate and peanut butter. SOOOO good together. Andy is my damn hero anyway. Too bad things went so goofy with Pete.

Ditto. Larocque is my hero as well. His vibrato is sick.

Sherman/Denner and LaRocque/Denner are at last as good imo. Denner definitely has a great Schenker vibe that compliments Larocque and Shermans shredding. Pete was great too.

I’ve been listening to a TON of KD and MF - such inspiring guitar stuff, but so good that it makes me want to just hang it up...

I always forget that it was a drum machine on the Eye.. that said, Snowy has great groove and I find he accents more and swings better than a lot of King's later drummers who are more like metronomes. Love this live clip of him playing Sleepness Nights.

That was FUN to watch!

Always loved that era of King! Also check John Norum and Billy White on Don Dokkens (Yea, I know) solo album. Extremely tasty soloing going on.

Funny you mention, I've been listening to Norum's album with Dokken. I'm sorry, but Norum's tone, and style smokes Lynch, (flame away).
I love Norum (AND Billy White, don't forget him !), but THIS ^ is crazy talk... Lynch is one of the best of his generation, when he was on no one could touch him.

not AL and PB, but still good. Great tone, me thinks.

^Yeah that's my fave, Shermann & Denner. I love how they both play rhythm and lead, and swap throughout each song.

According to this video, I take it that Mike Denner had the "squawkier midrange" guitar sound on Don't Break the Oath back in 1984? Hank Shermann's seems to have more lower mids. Both have a great "rippling" texture, like angry dogs frothing at the mouth.

Only because he was more of a household name, as Norum was virtually an unknown, (aside from Europe).

Which is why being a household name doesn't hold water here. Guys like us know really who the best of the best are and it makes this forum what it is. I gotta say Andy La Roque is easily as good as Lynch or Norum.

Didn't Billy White do most of the guitar work on the Don Dokken album? Thought I read that somewhere...

Anyway, thanks Kapo_Polenton for the Snowy Shaw vid above -- it opened up a whole new bunch of things that I'm listening to and really enjoying! As crazy as his vocals are, I'm totally into it!

Just a FYI. KD has a new Concert blueray"Songs for the Dead". Its interesting because it has two identical concerts on it. One Us date and the other a Euro festival, both from the last tour where they do Abigal.

Cant recommend it enough for KD and Andy fans.

I love anyone who was involved with KD/MF. Seen both bands quite a bit with various musicians. Denner/Sherman always killed it and Hank was usually using a Strat with singles every time i saw them. Blakk, Snowy, Wead all slay, but Andy is always the most consistent. He ooozes class

I think not.. Had to break out Conspiracy today. Sick, sick, sick. I loves me some Downing/Tipton, Murray/Smith, but KD's shredfests Them, Conspiracy, and The Eye, are just unrivaled.

Thanks, now I will be listening to King Diamond forever, which is not a "Bad thing" ! The haunting voice in Abigail is always a favorite.

They are definitely hard to beat. Although the boys in Angra were pretty damn killer too.

The "Angels Cry" era + "Rebirth" are just epic. Rebirth they rolled back the gain, guitars sounded weird at first, then super cool

Was Pete on the Eye album as well? That album is sort of my guilty pleasure too.. I like it as much as conspiracy and THEM. Almost sounds a bit more commercial if that is possible for KD, but I love it. I'm faaaather Picaaaarddd... I'm taking OOOOooovverrr, things will be different in here!!!! lol

Also shout out to Mickee Dee and Snowy Shaw on those early albums ..awesome drumming. His drummers are always great but those guys had great swing and rythm. Love hearing the ride bell on those patterns. Ting ta ting ta ting! so awesome.

Yep, he played on The Eye. Funny, Snowy Shaw is credited with drums, but they used a drum machine.

The Drum Machine on THEM is clouded in various quotes...
I heard that the drummer hired in for THEM couldn't play the parts written so they looked at drum machines. What you actually hear is supposedly various people playing on an electric kit triggering samples.... However it's impossible to confirm or deny
