I just received a Griffin Analog Honey Bee, as you probably could have surmised from the title of this thread. If you would have asked me, I would hands down say I am a guy who loves gain, and can really stack it on for a huge screaming sound.
All current testing performed in a high headroom clean (black and tweed) on a strat with vintage output alnico IIs.
The Honey Bee is not that crazy, uncontrolled monster. No, this pedal is quite tame when it comes to gain levels, but it packs a big punch and is extremely transparent, responsive, and dynamic. (BUZZ words)
It's true though. The nature and gain controls have an interesting relationship with one another in a way I have not yet fully been able to flesh out. You can get a good sound with almost any setting it seems like on this.
Again, not a high gain pedal at all, but it gives you that sting! Helps you sustain and push and have nice grit and edge. Can make you sound HUGE but in a way that doesn't alter your original sound too much. Throw a compressor in front and you just have this wonderful, big, bluesy, singing sound that will just sustain and sustain.
Really great buy. Will update the thread as further testing is done.
Really happy with this one.
Oh, and dead quiet as well. I don't know how he does it.
Wayne, you rock!!!
