Now we have "Milton", expected to reach Cat3 and models have it headed straight to Tampa... Of course there's a "cone" of uncertainty which may have it south of us, (best case scenario for us, but bad for them). I've lived here 30+ years. I'm honestly getting too old and tired of it. Helene, 2 weeks ago just grazed us, (I'm about 40 miles East of Tampa), and it rattled my nerves, and still did some major damage before landfall well north, which was catastrophic to Florida, Georgia, SC, and especially NC.

I feel bad for yall dealing with these disasters.
I couldn't think of rebuilding my life every few yrs. Sometimes 2x a year.

This is the reason why ill never move south of VA

My DEEPEST sympathies to you brother. My family, mom, dad, sister, daughter, nieces, and a whole bunch of old and very good friends are in St. Pete and Tampa. My best friend is in St. Pete. My pa/ma loaded up the guitars and amps and is headed to my older sisters in Tallahassee. Spent the morning trying to convince my daughter to get out. She won't leave.

I was there for the summer of Charlie and it was storms every week that August IIRC, About a dozen years for me in FL before I moved to TX for good. Those storms were a total headache but I have this sinking feeling this is gonna change things forever. My parents and sister are on the gulf beaches. My sister already lost everything. I was tentatively trying to arrange a tour over to there but it's all falling apart with this stuff. I hope you are safe and that the Lord watches over you and all that is yours. You are in my prayers and the prayers of other rig talkers. Blessings brother. Be strong.

Why the heck do y'all try to live where all the hurricanes are ?

🌊
Man Tampa/St. Pete is/was/hopefully will still be a GREAT place for guys who love metal and music in general. My second home state outside TX. Pray for them Ben. There are more Eddie appreciators there than you will probably find anyplace.

Death metal capital (or at least birthplace) of the USA!

You had to be there. It's the death metal capital of the US to this day. Lots of badass serious players. Unfortunately none of the scene is what it used to be for those guys but it doesn't stop them. Dedicated.

For sure. I moved here in '89, and even worked with Trevor of Obituary before he left to tour Europe when Slowly We Rot came out. The band I was in practiced next door to Morbid Angel. The 90's were great times. Big bands came out of Tampa/Florida, and attracted alot of big names to play here, and record at Morrisound.

Why the hell don't they just move away from the damn hurricanes ?
Bikes, beaches, babes. FL is second only to TX for cost of living and laid back life JMHO. Actually a little too laid back so i came to TX for the blues.

You recorded at Morris sound? Pretty much the top big dawg studio there to this day.

We used to rehearse weekly at Joe Diaz's Circle Studios in Seminole. It was all metalheads, we were the only blues band. Joe is a really good dude, reasonable rates, chill laid back vibe....you could smoke in there. Helluva player too. He filled in for some of the Savatage reunions since Chris Oliva died (RIP). A big blues fan too. Love that guy. Get stuck paying Austin Music Lab rates and your memories get all the more fond for his place. Couches, cabs, amps, p.a provided. Smoke what you like. Just don't spit on the walls!!!!

That's so cool. I love 90's death metal. I bet you have a nice demo catalogue (And probably a few stories to tell)!

Your pops plays guitar? Cool!

Why won't your daughter leave? Why should she leave? Is her place flooded?

The gobernment had to do something about all the good working folk moving south.

She has work obligations and is a young person without a clue on how serous this is. I told her that once the SHTF there I won't be able to help her. She's in an apartment but the flooding will a) ruin your car and b) start fires potentially and c) no power, water, sewer. possibly no cell phone for indeterminate amount of time. She doesn't realize what it could snowball into. I was in my 20's once. I would probably tie myself to a tree and enjoy the ride but I am a) crazy and b) a man.

Yeah that's not a good situation. At least get some preps, plan and backup plan...
