Another Marshall SC20H thread...

This damn thing keeps me intrigued. I'm still looking for something to fill the void, with a small footprint. The Mini Jube is still a contender, as is a Runt 20. As for the SC20H, it seems like the perfect amp. Simple, yet pure Marshall. However, I think I've read more negative than positive reviews. What's bad about it?

Ive seen a bunch of people who seemed to enjoy it. The couple I saw that didnt only complained that it was still too loud. Personally I would probably grab a 2202 from Ceriatone. Its half the price plus more features(except 6v6's)

I jumped on a JVM205H on the cheap. So much for smaller amp!

Yeah I thought that going with 20 watters would allow me to get the masters up a bit more in the 12X14 jam room I have in the house. Not really the case. The mini Jube and JJ Jr can still get loud as all hell in there. Maybe I move my amps into the great room! The woman would love that.

I've had a 205H before, and they have a great master. I use a volume pedal in the loop too - works great for louder amps.

Get a mini Splawn Supersport with EL34s. It will destroy that little Marshall.

The Marshall SC20 is a great amp, I had it at the same time as my 2203X and compared them directly. You are not going to get the low end thump of a 100 watter with it in the room, but it more than does the job. Mic’d up you can get them sounding very close and recorded I actually liked the smaller one better. I found the SC20 has slightly more pre-amp gain available. I’m hoping to get one of the new blacked out stealth versions this fall. If you want the pure JCM 800 sound in smaller form this is it.

I had the mini-Jube previous to this, but I’ve always found a Jube awkward to dial in and prefer all tube gain to diode clipping. They are different beasts.

Good choice man. The 50 watt JVM destroys the SC20 in every way possible. One of my favorite amps ever

It'll be my 4th 205. I felt like I needed back in the Marshall camp. I got it dirt cheap on Reverb, and the guy said he only put 10 hours on it. LOVE OD2 Orange - pure Marshall!

Never was a big fan of the JVM on several different levels but you've been through a lot of amps so hats off to you for 'that' search and going with what you like. If this is your 4th one then that should tell you something right there.

That said, if I did get a JVM - I'm confident it would be the 205H and I agree on OD2 Orange. Just not 'my' amp.

this ^ and you get a very usable clean channel

i still have my modded JVM 210H and must say it is one of the best 'bedroom volume" gain monsters I've ever owned
the master volume on this thing works really well.
super sport is a kick ass amp if you need the smaller footprint, I found the loop master worked really well.
I may come back to one of these or have Scott build me a smaller footprint quick rod if possible.
