Should I just be checking for continuity? I really have no idea what I’m doing. I know enough not to get electrocuted but that’s about it. I did locate a tech but damn…. I really don’t have much in it, nor do I want to put any more in it. It’s not worth it. Sounds great when working…it’s an ultra +, but you know…
yeah ..... continuity ........

I will keep messing with it…. If nothing else it is a good learning experience.
watch a vid or two about checking your caps ..... an ESR meter would work best for the electro's but you can still check to see if they are " dead " with a decent multimeter ( as long as your meter can read cap values )

Well according to my semi local guy that I just spent an hour on the phone with….the switching matrix is fucked. Probably from me going in with a soldering iron. Ohhh well. Gonna keep fucking with it… and this guy’s legit….. great conversation….really enjoyed speaking with him.

I was swapping power tubes with that EVH combo and now i have no filiment voltage / no sound.
2 fuses i can see are good. I may have burnt a filiment resistor.
I have an appoinment with Mr. Obeid Khan @ 1p.
Amp problems suck.

When I get a chance I’ll open it up again. The guy I spoke to today was awesome and really enjoyed speaking to him. He’s not a mesa fan and told me a couple fascinating Marshall stories…and some other things as well. Just a very interesting dude who has been working on amps and guitars forever. He jokingly referred to his home as the house that peavey built…lol

Obeid is bad ass. Also very expensive.

I usually go to Carlos Bedoya. He ain't cheap either. And he takes his sweet ass time. But the fact is most of my amps were built by him so he may as well be the fuckin guy working on them.

I sold him an enclosed trailer and an SVT CL ( That he built) last year. I think he bought one of my 810CLs too.

Well I am at a total loss. I have spent all afternoon checking traces on the pcb’s. Every single one. All good. No cold solder joints. Not sure how to check caps but none are bulging. Checked all ribbon cables and they look good. Boards looked good. I don’t know. Will not go into channel 3 and the volume just isn’t right. Anybody want a fucked up ultra + 60…. Even checked the fuses with my touchscreen…all good. So I don’t know…. At this point I’m done.

For channel 3 not switching, could you trace the control signals and see if one of the switching elements is busted?

Elaborating on that... Could you try operating the switch and seeing if the contacts that should close, close, using your multimeter's continuity checker? Also see if you can get a resistance reading across each set of contacts when closed? The amp can/should be off during this.

For the relay, I'm thinking you can probably check if it's working properly by buying a cheap 12V battery (not a car battery) and connecting that across the relay's control contacts and then measuring across the signal contacts with your multimeter.

For how the switching works, is it that the channel select switch toggles between clean and ultra, and using the footswitch you can select crunch?

The foot switch won’t work. It only allows switching between the clean and crunch channels. I will pull it and check the switch and post my findings. Right now I’m working on my other pv….lol… Windsor… sounds good actually….

The foot switch won’t work.
Ok, so the amp won't go into ultra when you try using the footswitch, and it won't go into ultra when you try using the front panel switch? Have you tried using the front panel switch without the footswitch connected?

Can you make this Probe?? Even Gator Clips on a guitar Cable will do..

You could do it with a guitar signal or what ever.. Just get a signal and touch the Grid input of every Tube Stage to see if your problem is in the Preamp or Power amp.

You can back track this way..

Cued up for you..

Thanks midnight! I ordered a new switch to install. I will see what happens when I do that. Probably a waste of time and money but we shall see.

Okay that was a cool little thing he did…. Thanks!
