They probably are good guitars for sure, but after i discovered the partscaster route i haven't seen any reasons to spend fucking 3k on a single guitar.

Pics?
I like partscasters too

I've got a nice super fat Birdseye Luxxtone neck if one of you partscaster luthiers like that sort of thing

I've built nearly 2 dozen partscasters, 8 of them for other people, even a custom spec build for a guy in japan that I've never met. I like to think I'm ok at specing, assembling and setting up a damn fine instrument.
My #1 for nearly a decade was a warmoth build I did. Then I played a suhr and eventually a friedman, there's levels to this shit, and I'm not on this level.

I'd also offer that I've broken even on the partscasters I've built for others, lost money on every one I've built for myself and sold used.

I bought every suhr, anderson, friedman I've ever had used and have never lost a dime on any of them. Now my custom order I would expect to markdown should I ever sell it, but I'm not planning to sell it... I love partscasters, but not as much as I love trying new stuff and that's way easier to do when I'm not losing money.

I’m not a big fan of their neck shape.

Hopefully better made than the GJ2 series.
What was wrong with GJ2 guitars?
I've played 2 GJ2's and both were duds. They felt as if the the were USA made guitars using budget parts. That being said. I have heard that they make guitars for several other brands and those guitars are high quality

I have a Washburn MG, Chicago made, from the era when GJ was designer there. I had to swap the neck for a Warmoth. My guitar tech said it was some of the softest maple he'd ever laid hands on
And this is a 20-something year old guitar with ample time to dry, in a country with fairly stable humidity.
I had to tweak the neck every time I picked it out of the case, and it was a nightmare, because the adjustment screw was at the butt end.

Wonderful neck, but way too soft for anything but eye candy.

Tried good, reputable luthier route too. The suhr and friedman still win. This isnt saying the partscasters are bad in any way, I have just found that no matter how great I got them to be, the suhr and friedman were still better.

Each to their own, i've played few suhrs myself and i didn't find anything special about them. Also i think that there probably isn't any hidden secrets that John or Dave have in terms of setting up their guitars.

It’s all about the fretwork

Could be and it is all subjective. Play what you like, doesnt matter what it is as long as its being played!

I like what I hear from the demos
One thing holds me back at that price point...
here's the blurb:
"Each piece of wood is hand selected by the meticulous eye of Grover Jackson himself, there are no compromises here, just legendary craftsmanship."
yet, I have seen many of their necks have wood blemishes that I'd not expect on a boutique instrument

Is that a blemish or the relic thing? I wondered the same thing. Had a vintage S and it played silky smooth. Loved everything about , just not a huge strat tone player. It did strat tones as good as any. Parts were top quality, intonation was spot on and pitch return was 100% using the trem. Only thing I'd consider is at 3k new there are tons of guitars in that price range which makes it a tougher choice, ymmv

I'm loving this guitar.

Are the back of the necks on the Friedmans unfinished like a Charvel?
