Any Peavey JSX owners here? What's your opinion of them?

As everyone has said, the Ultra on the JSX is the same as the Crunch on the XXX, but that’s it. I have had both amps. The Crunch on the JSX has more of a modded Marshall kind of thing going on and with the fat switch you can dial things in to suit different guitars or a less super tight tone.

To me one of the big sticking points is the sound of the clipping diodes in the circuit. If they were switchable I probably would have kept the amp because I do not always want that. If you know what “that” sound is, it is very prominent in the tone of that channel and it’s like the longer you play it the more it stands out, especially if you use a very pokey midrange pickup like a 498T or an alnico Nailbomb or something like that. It’s like the frequencies line right up.

Ive had both and they were similar. I preferred the middle channel of the XXX and the lead channel of the JSX.

One very important difference between these amps is the JSX has presence and resonance controls while the XXX has a weird, three position “damping” switch. I never liked that on the XXX.

If you don’t like the XXX you WILL NOT like the JSX. They’re damn near the same amp
It's actually the TripleX2 that's basically the JSX. Original Triple XXX is nothing like the JSX or the TripleXXX2 IMHO...confused yet...LOL!

I can't comment on the XXX but the JSX I bought probably 15 years ago and I could not get back to Guitar Center fast enough to return it.

Nothing alike… man I disagree having owned both at the exact same time, To each their own though. Frequency wise both are real similar. Gain structure a bit different but the overall frequency and peavey honkiness are absolutely present in both. For someone who absolutely hates one, I doubt they dig the other. In a blindfold test and set up the same I highly doubt anyone here could tell them apart.

We do all hear different, fo show. The original TripleXXX I had was nothing like the TripleXXXII. I HATED the tripleXXXII becasue of that honk. The OG Triple I had was so different.

I wondered if Peavey's had similar mid stuff going on... My Valveking has the same or similar mids that I dislike in 5150 style amps, so I'm glad to find out others are noticing a trend too and it's not just me.
I've owned a 6505 and 6505+ and found none of the annoying honk in the mids with those amps. Only the XXXII

I bought a XXX head a long time ago after hearing Gary Holt play one in a small club. I loved it through a V30 can with gain low and boosted. Bought a JSX later and hated it. Really nasal and honky.
