Anybody got a ESP/LTD Viper?

Hey fellas, anyone got opinions on the finish crack on this axe? I really don't care about small cosmetic blems but do you think there is any potential it may run deeper than the poly? Never had a crack like that on a poly painted guitar so no experience. Any opinions would be great. Considering making an offer.....

I don't know anything about SG designs, but that appears to run along a seam or something. Since it happened after a fall, I would be suspicious.

I got my '61 Reissue for $1699 brand new, sealed, and had $150 in rewards cash. I know their "gear advisors" at MF can be annoying, but I have a girl that works major deals for me, and she can always tell me if they're in the warehouse sealed. If they're hanging on walls, she'll tell me, and I pass. She's great, and does alot of legwork to get deals done. She even gets me Next Day shipping for free. All things considered, you can get a deal if you put in the work.
same here. I've been working with the same MF sales women for many years; and she lets me know when what I want is in stock, new in box at their warehouse, and when I do preorders keeps me posted when the dates change. I usually buy new gear from MF almost exclusively now, especially guitars.

I said I never would, but my last 2 purchases went smoothly. You just have to verify warehouse sealed, and not some GC wall hanger. My SG was impeccable, and without a single flaw. Got lucky I suppose, but nut was perfect, fit and finish perfect, I just needed to throw locking tuners on, straighten the neck up with some truss rod tweaks, and lower the action. Plays like butter, and holds tune like a champ.

Thanks Rex. I started another thread in the hopes to get a few more opinions before bidding. I don't care about cosmetics, I'm going to play the guitar and ding it all up. I just don't want a crack in the wood at the heel to deal with.

Looks like a finish crack.
Did you buy it?
Says it's been sold.
The serial indicates 2020, not 2012 like the description says.
Despite events going on in the world that was a good year for guitars from World Korea, ime.

The Viper is different from the SG. It's a good deal thicker, If it were just a clone then I wouldn't be looking at them. Google says an SG is 1 3/8 thick. Viper is 1.77". Basically splitting the difference between an SG and an LP, hence the reason I'm looking at the Viper not an SG. It also comes standard with Ebony in the LTD line. Not gonna happen with an SG until big $$$.

I didn't buy it. Everyone here said not to. Wife said not to. Seller's response to my message was mostly retarded so my gut said no. I'll either hold out for a purple Korean made one or I'll wait until next year and buy an ESP USA. I had a bunch of people tell me to buy an SG. The whole point of my latest round of shopping was a thicker version of an SG and with an ebony board. I'm looking for a blues guitar off the beaten path with this purchase, not the same shit everyone else uses. I also trust your judgment on the ESP/LTD line so, thank you.

still has that "sg" doublecut look.

if it has to be that shape, color, fretboard, etc. then wait and get what you want.

something like this?

Notice they must've re-listed it. Is there any good/bad LTD years to look out for. I'm looking at some of the tiger eye sunburst models considering my options. Any input there? If you really think that purple axe is just a finish crack I might be tempted to lowball him and just see what happens. Worst case is a crack I can return for minus shipping, otherwise save a pretty good chunk of change and have an extra write off for taxes.....

Ever look into the Epiphone Prophecy SG?
Appreciate the good looking out metalhex but I've said I don't want an SG like five times in this thread. I did watch a vid on the prophecy earlier, nice guitar, I'm just liking the viper with the larger, thicker body. If I buy one I'll have 3 ESP products which will make me an official fanboi. But for real just looking for something a little different.

Imo, anything from World Korea (W serial) or Cort Indonesia (C or IC serial) from mid 2010s-present is going to be on par with each other fit and finish wise. I would personally lean toward World as they tend to use better pieces of wood and their finishes don't seem quite as thick. One factory to the next is more due to cost savings than qc issues, imo. I probably wouldn't feel as confident to say Samick Indonesia (IS or S) falls into the same level. YMMV.

ESP(LTD) also use PT Wildwood Indonesia (Also W serial or IW, but says made in Indonesia), but I have no personal experience with them. TBH, not sure if those ones came to the states or were just mainly used to lower costs for exports headed to Europe since they have different trade agreements. I know a lot of cheap name brand acoustics come from there.

I would feel confident in either World or Cort (Personally leaning toward World mostly just because) and would probably look more at the minor changes between years of the model like the older ones had set necks that weren't tapered and don't have as good of upper fret access or wood choices might differ.

The thing is the one you're looking at is advertised as being a finish blem. You wouldn't (well, shouldn't) be on the hook for return shipping if it turns out not to be the case. If it were my money and purple was number 1 on my list I would probably go for it or ask the person who has the one with 81/60 emg for $500 if they would possibly ship or use it as a baseline for negotiating with the one you're looking at. I'm not promoting one way or another and it's your fault if you get an "I told you so" from your wife :ROFLMAO:

The Pegasus and Sentient were both designed for extended range guitars, and tbh are amazing for cleans in any tuning. I have no experiece with the Pegasus bridge in a 6 string format as I only have the Nazgul/Sentient in that size, but the Sentient is called that for a reason. I couldn't imagine anyone removing it, tbh.

As always a wealth of info NYPWP, many thanks. I shot off a couple messages to reverb sellers asking for some serial # info where it wasn't listed in the ad. I'd go browse GC but nobody has any Vipers in stock around here and I can't find anything on craigslist between Austin and San Antonio.

Wife still says no on the cracked purple, lol "don't be an idiot". She's probably right, that had to have taken a good hit to crack almost across the whole neck and it's pretty close to where the joint starts. Every year this time I start shopping guitars and then wind up waiting cause by the time I find what I wanted it's Christmas shipping season and everything moves slow.

Great info on the Sentient. It would be nice to have a great neck pup factory and maybe just swap out the bridge (if I find it objectionable). SD lists the DC resistance at 7.8k, that's 57 classic/Seth Lover range but I imagine it's hotter in the real world. Good clean tone sounds like a start. I'll definitely give both pickups a good run before making any decision if I wind up with a viper. Thanks!!!!!

I agree with your wife, not the the idiot part though, lol. 🤣 What if it starts opening up 3 months down the road. Sounds like you have the green light to open up the price range hehe! 😍

I am liking the way you said "open up the price range". I just told her that's the deal. She said she's not having this conversation.
