Do the upgrades warrant the few hundred dollars the Deluxe costs over the Standard American Strats?

I know the pickups are upgraded - big difference over the Standard Strat pickups? How is the S-1 switching system?

Also, do these things come with locking tuners? Some descriptions say they do, while others don't mention them.

Thanks in advance :D

I have a 2001 Deluxe strat, thats before the s-1 switching, but it has the noisless pickups and so on, I love mine, the neck and frets have rolled edges and feel great, well worth the Extra money and the tuners are killer, how much are they going for now? I paid $950.00 in 2001

They sell new for about $1100 - $1200. I would like to buy used, but they aren't that abundant. Not to mention, a lot of their prices on eBay are about as much as a new one

There are plenty of used American Standard Strats to be had, but the upgrades on the Deluxe sounded kind of cool :D

My main guitar is an American Deluxe.

I love it, but if it had been a regular American I would have taken it too. It felt right more than anything.

The S-1 switch in mine is disabled - it honestly sounds like shit. I love the locking tuners, though.

I love my Ameri Deluxe Fat Strat, its a 1999 model though without the S-1 switching. I put a JB in the bridge, and the noiseless pickups do just fine. The neck is pretty comfortable and its the only guitar I have never sold, had it for about 6 years now

Heres a pic of it

Interesting. What pickups do you have in it?

I still have all the original ones, the S1 is just out of the loop.

They sound damn good. I love the neck tone for jazz, though I'm thinking of popping an Eric Johnson set in there - if they weren't so damn expensive.

The abalone's alright, a little bling for my tastes. I love the colour of mine though.

here is my 2001 crimson red transparent deluxe

I wish they made some other colors for the American Deluxe's. I would love a surf green/teal, or the sonic blue

I think ebay is my only chance for any colors like that, though

I have '05 model (25th Ann American Deluxe in Sunburst), I need to put a bridge humbucker in it I don't play it nearly enough

Route that shit for a Floyd and it would be even better. :D

I have a 50 anni delux strat with the S1 switching....I bought the reg anni model first but I play at home volumes a lot and I hated the 50 cycle hum with the reg strat pickups. You do lose a little vibe with the S1 pickups but not much and for my use the noiselessness of the pcikups makes up for any loss of tone.

My favorite guitar is the American Delux Strat.

(sorry for the gimpy pic)

I dont like the S1 switching or the SCN pickups but my tastes are on the vintage side of things. All the S1 switching did was boost the output and roll off highs, and I found myself accidently pushing the button in when reaching for my guitar volume so I had it taken out.

As for the SCN pickups themselves... They sound excellent under high gain. Waaaaaaaaaay better than you'd think. Ive got a clip of them under high gain with my Superbass and a SD-1 pushing it if you're interested. Where they fail, are on cleans and semi overdriven tones... They just sound a little flat, if you know what I mean.

As far as playability goes, this is where the guitar shines IMO. The satin fininsh is just buttery smooth without being slippery, and the neck shape is perfect for my small gimp hands. The other thing that really impressed me with this guitar, is its tuning stability. I keep the bridge floating, and use the whammy bar a lot and it stays in tune (or close enough for gov't work). I was actually really impressed with that. The locking tuners work well but are not the greatest... My high E locking tuner ended up gimping out (I put in indentation in the locking part so the string would slip out). I ended up switching the D string tuner with the high E tuner and now its back to normal.

Then again, this guitar has been my main gigging guitar for the last few years and I beat the fuck out of my gear. I guess the tuner problem could be considered normal wear and tear from serious abuse. :D

Damn boy now you play guitar!

i bought a 50th anniversary American Deluxe strat and it was amazing. i loved the hell out of it and owned it for only a week. i had to take it back to GC because the neck was warped and rather than get another one i decided to give carvin a try.

the only thing i've heard is that a lot of fenders now-a-days are kind of hit or miss with quality control. also, i think older american deluxe's had waaaay better color options than the current ones.

Any clips you feel like posting would be appreciated :D

As far as the pickups go, a lot of the reviews I've read have said the same thing - they are a little weak and thin. Many reviews said the the S-1 switching just creates weird, not necessarily good, tones

Anybody know how the pickups on the American Standard Strat are? If I decide to go the Standard route, I could just have locking tuners installed on the guitar

Also, has anybody tried/heard the Gilmour EMG's? They looked kind of interesting but are about $300.
