Call me crazy, but I'm really starting to want a rectifier lately to run with Diezels, to give the riffs more hammer like effect.

Tell me about your experiences running them together.

when my band and I jam. My other guitarist uses a
mesa roadster. My herbert and that amp sound pretty
sweet together in my opinion.

I tried layering my Mesa DR with the VH4. Even with altering the phasing, I couldn't get it to sound very complimentary. The Mesa has so much sizzle when gain is set high on Ch2 or Ch3. It seemed to conflict with the mids and highs of the VH4. I just don't think it is a good combination and the Mesa definitely gets lost in the mix. That's why I went with the Uber instead. You may have better luck with a Mark IV in combining with the Diezel. My opinion only though, your ears being the judge. Recording though, you may be able to have some fun with it. If I was in the US, I would send you my Mesa to have a go with.

Steve,

What tubes do you have in your rectifier?
What mode do you use on it?

We are two guitarists in our band. He is using a stereo setup. One Rectifier and one Roadster. But i have some problems to cut in the mix. But i think it´s my Marshall cab. After the Frankfurt fair I´m gonna buy a new Diezel cab. I hope this can solve my problems.

Hey man, we had great success with this (IMO). We mixed my Einstein w/ a Triple Rec and got some cool textures. Check out clips at https://www.myspace.com/fightinginstinct . Only listen to Stop Me Cold and Under The Gun (the others are either not-so-good-quality ampitube demos or a different studio recording session from the Diezels...I'm sure you can probably tell the difference :aww:)

Also, it was never mastered and is of course in mp3 format...let me know if you'd rather me dig up the original .WAVs (5 songs were recorded that way)...

And here's some great VH4 riffage... https://www.myspace.com/lynam Not sure if there's a Mesa in the mix or not...sounds smoother (naturally). Listen to "Lyndsay Says"

Helps that helps w/ your tone quest

I think it's a cool mix, nice grind from both amps.
BTW your myspace page is not compatible with firefox, must be some html coding error. You might want to get that fixed.

Hi nbarts,

you see....now just 2 days further, you want to mix the herbert too :D

by the way, i can't tell you like it will be in the end, but i think the engl se will do this job for me. maybe you could test it somewhere

Actually I was going to mix it with the VH4, but then I'm a hardcore amp mixer, don't pay attention to what I say.

IMO Engl is too thick, I'm really looking for more higher frequency grind & punch to combine with VH4.

haha great

but try the engl in lead1, if have not already.....i really like it on a v30 direct sm57 to the cone....just my thought on this :)

i had the same problem. except i was using a dual rect and a herbert. trying to mix the two in a gigging/practicing situation was hard for me, but as said before, you should be able to do it when recording.

i also tried ch2 of the herbie and a mesa quad into a 50/50 and they sounded good. same with the quad and the rectifier. so i guess maybe a mark series amp should go along with a diezel pretty well. imho.

hey guys!
I had bad luck with Mesa with my Diezel Herbert. I know they are 2 different amps..but IMO the Mesa isnt even in the same league. It sounded like a buzz saw amongst the greatness. Not a fan of Mesa's for many reasons..except for some combos & a Mark IV. But just my 2 cents.
I did have luck with a 1966 Fender Bassman head w/ a modded Tube Screamer thru a 4x12 Marshall Cab mixing with the Herbert/Diezel V412F. Like Jimmy Page & God had a meeting of tones..very complimentry..and very full. Just a great vibe & very unexpected!!!

When my band was doing some demos, I had my Herbert and Mesa Mark III along with the other guitarists single Rectifier. We both ended up using the Herbert and the Mark III. The Rec wasn't recorded at all. Maybe it was just us, but the Rec sounded so muddy and undefined next to the Herbert, it just didn't work. The Mark III fit along side it much better. Live, I've received complaints from the sound guys about the single Rec just not sounding good next to the Herbert. Usually, they start by complimenting the Herbert and finishing by trashing the sound of the Rec. One of the sound guys is a friend of mine who mixes hardcore metal bands all weekend long and plays a dual rec himself. Just my $.02. YMMV.

Ever listen to Alterbridge.? Therein lies your answer. Miles Kennedy has GREAT tone. Check out his video on youtube about it. Just google his name and add the word rig to it
Lemme know what you think.

Can't complain about my rig! Sounds best with both set clean and effected. Only use one or the other for the heavy tones.

Miles is currently running a Herbert and Mark IV head. Mark was running a Mesa Triple Rectifier and Ubershcall with Fender Twins in stereo and something boutique amp.

Umm, the amp is over at the practice room, but it has Mesa 6L6's in it and I keep everything in modern voiced, bold on the selector and tube rectifier. You may be able to dial in something you like, but I messed with it for a while and it never did much for me.

I googled it. Cool sound, but not what I'm after. But then, who knows, it might sound just right in my hands.

I'm going for really heavy & really tight sound.
