Yup, via W/D/W setup using a Boogie Simul 395 Stereo Power Amp. Been doing that for YEARS (Since the 80's, w/ stereo rigs. Back then I used a rack mounted MKIII that I plugged the guitar into, and then split the fx loop send of Boogie 1 into the 2290 input and L/R Stereo out via a TC 2290 into the FX Return of Boogie 1 and a MKIII Coliseum Amp 2). I was using a Crown power amp in this video

Sounds great as usual Zachman

curious how much difference you notice comparing the Boogie 395 power amp to the crown?

Thanks brother...

VERY different, imo. The Simul 395 adds that girth and smoothness to the center Dry tone, and mixes well together to give a net overall tone result, that I like. The Crown is a bit more 'transparent', I suppose. It surprised me how good it sounded. Best part was I got it free, so that doesn't suck.

Here are a couple of clips w/ the 395

This one, the 1st half was clean tones, and the 2nd half was me experimenting w/ VH1 tones:

Yeah those are some sick tones! I wonder if you know of any sleeper or good value power amps that work well in this scenario?

The Matrix, The old Peavey Classic power amps are good too. It takes a bit of experimenting to find the preferred pairing The Crown power amp is a XLS 402.

$150 Buy it now

That was a question I had as well.. I am assuming that in the "classic" setup, any EQ pedal, Phase and Flange are out front with Echoplex after the line out and before power amp?

Also, in the slave to SS poweramp, are you guys are not just using the poweramp for FX but also as the overall volume control for the master amp correct? So technically, the audience is hearing a reamped pre/power section of the Marshall through the SS power amp which is mic'd?

Crown power amp looks interesting, even if just for the "wet" side.

That sounds great! What is that last song 'Dreamscape' in that video? I really liked that.

I doubt that the mxr pedals support a line level signal

Good point!

I don't know how this would have been done with vintage gear like an echoplex though but a lot of pedals now handle line/instrument level. MXR though, you are right I think so that answers that. They also sound better in front of the amp I think.

ALL the pedals including the EP-3 Echoplex are run in front of the amp, part of the mojo of the echoplex is the preamp, EVH, Page, EJ all ran the echoplex before the amp, for the DLR tour I'm using a TC mini flashback with a EP-3 tone print in place of the EP-3, I no longer use the 'Echoplex' preamp pedal as pictured, also the flanger settings are pictured as well ;) I only run a volume pedal and TC2290 for spacious delays in between the load box and Matrix stereo power amp into 4 4x12 cabs, So yes the power amp is the master volume in my rig, since I'm running a stereo rig not w/d/w, although I have the option of taking a dry signal from the Suhr load box's built-in IR if I need it
