Anyone Else? Rhoads Prototype III... sort of...

Anyone else mod the crap out of an Jackson RR to get toward the third prototype that Randy never got?

Traded some stuff and grabbed up this little RRJS and the owner had already modded it up with a gold pickguard and pickups...

Decided to make a poor man's version of the third prototype... well, at least an homage to it...

Meant to 'just' be a wall mounted beauty, this cheap little guitar actually plays quite well... still waiting on my EMG compatible gold toggle to arrive and then finish all the wiring... might do a video... we shall see...

^^^^^^

With as much care as I could muster!!!! Found a lovely Linen White matte finish spray paint, took several days to add coats, some fine sanding, etc... let it sit for a few more days, light sand, then clear coat satin finish (not a huge fan of gloss, even though the actual prototype is glossy). A LOT of hard work... it has a lot of unintentional visual texture up close, but I like it... some of the wood grain is visible... given that it was a 'cheap' (costly, I mean, as she plays VERY well), and intended to 'just' be a wall hanger, I'm actually quite pleased with how she's turning out...

Installing the toggle now and gonna fire her up through a Boogie to test her out...

FINISHED!

For a project that started as 'just' a potential wall mount, I'm thrilled with the final product... not an exact replica at all, but close enough to keep reminding me of where Randy was headed compositionally with (at least what I see as) the evolution of tunes like "Revelation" to "S.A.T.O" to the Band Jam on the Diary tour...

I highly recommend the RRJS for a VERY cost effective option... the neck is quite nice...

If anyone else has a homemade RR III Prototype, I'd love to see it! Or a Concorde (which I would LOVE to have)...

Very cool. Mine sounds and plays great so I am going to leave it alone but I find it hard to play sitting down.

You can get a Concorde from aliexpress

The tele is just because its so wrong hahaha .. thinking I should change the switch cover to Brass in honour of his number 2 Jackson haha
