Anyone Else?

I feel ya and understand, it happens, I think it’s just a natural thing that hits everyone at certain points. I started a new job last February and bought a house in October. I didn’t pick up a guitar from Feb until Dec and didn’t feel into it at all.

BUT I can say when I started again last month, I’m just happier. My wife noticed too and I just told her about a week ago about how happier I am when I’m doing shit in the studio. It’s not all just playing either. It’s working on guitars, trying different things, etc…

My advice to anyone feeling this is: send me your cool amps. I'll make some videos of them and then tell you I decided to just keep them because I like them so much. Eventually, after awhile, and much runaround.. I will send them back and you will want it back so bad, it will re-ignite the flame.

Yup it's been going on with me for years along with severe depression 🫥
Man that shit hits hard. All I want to say is I hope you’re able to make it through to see happiness for what it’s truely worth one day. Happiness is your own choice - we all have shit sandwiches we are eating - it’s just deciding your outlook on life managing it. Self care man. I’ve had so many people pass away that I grew to know over the years that it’s poignantly showed how fragile life is. Enjoy it while we can.

Try lessons with me . Fr it’s fun and I help people at all levels . I’ve taught RT members and it’s a great time
It’s not that I don’t know how to play, it’s that I don’t care to sit down to even bother. It’s not the gear either.

I think part of it is a discontinuity of what I normally play and what I listen to. I don’t have an axe I can setup for C standard or drop A but I feel like I’m over Eb and just need to completely reset a few of my guitars and get a baritone for C.

i have guitars with every tuning between E standard and drop A, definitely helps keep things fresh

Yup, it ebbs and flows 'cause we're not machines.

Depression is IMHO the worst killer of inspiration. Been dealing with it along with serious health challenges for 30-odd years. The inspiration loss can last 10 years or more, but if we love music we can find solace in the fact that it will return... eventually.

Hang in there @glpg80.

I felt like that for a good chunk of last year. Company policy change forced me to use up a lot of remaining PTO by the end of the year, and the extra time at home had me playing a lot more, just because.

I’m on a better schedule overall this year, so I’m hoping that ball keeps rolling. Every few years it seems like I go through a bit of a slump for a while.
work often drains me of the desire to play or try gear experiments.

you’re like the 4th person i’ve heard of recently that was forced to use up all of their PTO either by last year or by the end of this year due to a company policy change.

Im up at @ 02:30a for work, [off days too]. Everyday is a 20 hr day.
I play when i can but mostly too tired.
Most times i play unplugged [medium gauge strings] or thru a Rockman.

Playing is one of things that gets me through difficult periods of life. When I don’t play or write music I get very frustrated. I have had times where I lose the motivation for particular projects or types of music, generally because too much time goes by just working in the same stuff without producing anything from it and the iron just gets cold. That’s when trying something new or switching gears to something different is important for me.

i think my lessons are equally about human interaction and music education. Even if “we” are good at an instrument, having a “trainer” so to speak is there to push and guide you. Like an exercise partner. Just the interaction itself helps. And it works both ways. Music is a language and not many people speak it so it’s nice to find like minded folks, like RTer’s who do.

I thin
All of you guys are amazing human beings and never forget that. Life is hard man but all of us should overcome it.
Yep to that

In a rut lately of just no desire to play or look at your guitar gear? Or is it just me?

Works been kicking my ass for an extended time and responsibilities have zapped me of free time. Just the ability to block out things so I can sit down to learn songs or work on amps is challenging if not impossible. This started late spring of last year but I honestly just don’t have it in me to want to pick up a guitar and play, let alone formally practice. I spent an epic amount on mics and recording gear/software hoping to improve my shit videos but I don’t even desire to play guitar let alone record.
YEP. Keep thinking buying new gear will help "inspire me to play. I think it's more likely that I just don't hear nearly enough good new music that makes me want to play. Who knows.

I know you know how to play very well . Just saying I’m great at making people want to practice . @Smashedguitaris⸸ tells me this a lot in lessons
