Anyone experienced with EMGs here?

I've had good experiences with 81, 57/66 and Hetfield bridge pickup

Somewhere in the EMG archives I think it says 18 to 24 volts only yields marginal gains.. 3 chunky batteries might be hard to accommodate without modding the compartment..
it's not 3 Batteries. it's 2 in a Housing, the Housing is approx the size of a 9 Volt.

Yes, I have experience with many EMG’s,
18volt mods etc.
From what you described..,
That’s a massive piece of telecaster shaped mahogany, talk about ‘body’!
It also has a very thin finish on it.
I would say give the Jim Root signature EMG’s
Daemonum set with the 18volt mod a faithful go at it.
They actually have a somewhat familiarity to passive pick-ups and the neck has more fangs.
The bridge is killer as well.
They are much more versatile also for lower gain and edgier’ break-up.

The monstrous piece of mahogany is a great match for the ebony fretboard which is critical with those solid necks.
Really balances everything out.
The Daemonum’s ooze a ‘livelier’ clean tone as well, especially in the middle pick-up setting, more jangle without the crusties’.
I believe these are JR’s answer to the 81/66 set he used throughout his career.
I’ve had the Tele, the Jazz and now I have the JR Strat.
I like the Strat most.
Except it needs a wiggle stick!
I put the JR EMG’s in that with the 18volt mod.
Super killer now homie!!
Really dig them with the 18volt mod.
The pick-ups are fairly priced as well,
Just snap them in.
Leave your pots intact.
I saw the new Daemonums on the EMG website. I may give them a go at some point. The new JR charvel has them and looks like a freakin beast of a guitar.(y)

guitarbilly was selling a set of super 77's over on GAF for like a 100 shipped I believe. those look real interesting.

Been a fan of EMGs forever. They have a pretty distinct sound, if you like it you like it, if you don’t….. they’re very picky about string height. Have a guitar with 81/60 and the het set. I think the het set may be my favorite. Having an emg set with an od808 into a high gain amp - I’m all about it.

Here’s a pic of my JR Strat partially
“Iced Out” with the JR EMG Den-however you spell it-pickups and 24volt mod.
With this guitar I’d gladly take on Clown(Shawn).
Burn him to the ground.
Super stoked with this set-up

*My best answer as to why the Leatherface
Mini-Me modeling the 24 volt mod, etc?*

Because your Velveteen Rabbit..,
-is my Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

-added newly “Parched Our” JR Strato’Bastard.

Love an 81 in the bridge. EMGs tend to like being adjusted higher than passive pickups. I think it should be mandatory whenever you get a new guitar to set it up before you judge it.

The 81 is a great sounding pickup. I do get bored with it rather quickly though. So I put 'em in and remove them shortly thereafter for passives that appear to have a bit better clean to dirty dynamic. For EMGish 81 sound, I end up with a plain old JB instead.

New update.
As I was organizing components for guitars/amps
I came across this ambulate of an adjuster control.
This was. Lest of 4 but are out on somebody’s guitar somewhere,
Much like the amps I’ve traded in and forgot
that there’s all NOS tubes in there, ARGH!!!
The skulls are made of real bone,
-made up of shards of skull chunks.
That’s a full-on skull in there, like a mini-me of
many before me on the evolutionary chart(s).

So I decided to ‘pull back on the parchment”
& “install the punishment.”
Guys, this guitar is so fucking bad sss.
-NO WIMPS.
