This is the method I've used before, but I used Meguiar's M9 Mirror Glaze Swirl Remover. I used it to remove the Duncan Designed logo on a couple of pickups. It's what I had on hand and it worked perfectly.
I would stay away from nail polish remover or acetone. They will melt plastic. It'll work if you use it sparingly and are careful. But it doesn't take much to fuck up the plastic bobbins. I know because in my profession we'll use acetone to clean the inlet of a GC. There's a few spots on the instrument's plastic housing that have blemishes from acetone drops.
