Anyone here own a Martin acoustic?

All Martins are good guitars but that still has laminates on the back and side. I would stear clear and hold out for solid wood.

Unfortunately, my budget isn't going to let me get up into the solid wood all around range. And again, this is mainly for playing around the house. I'd never pay that much for something like that.

The D-15 is around that cost. I have had several laminate acoustics over the years and they just don't age very well. I would save some money and go the distance if it were me. I'm wanting a 40s D-18 for my next acoustic but I need some serious cash for something that old. My 68 is my player at the moment. A friend sold it to me for $375 and after a neck reset it works great.

The only D15 on their site is $1899...way out of my range. I want one with electronics. Aging really isn't a big thing for me since I won't be spending a huge amount on one and most likely won't have it forever.

Actual cost will be $950 or so. Don't let the list price fool you. How did you get an endorsement?

That is still out of my range for a home guitar. I got the partial/artist endorsement by contacting them about it. They liked what I'm doing band wise since we play in front of pretty good crowds around the new england and our sponsorship doesn't hurt.

Nice, I should get since I'm such a long standing Martin advocate. Well I can't comment on the cheaper Martins as I have never owned one and have only played a D-1 to date. In the acoustic market the D-15 is the best buy on the planet. I gave mine to my youngest son about 6 months ago. I got it to put a pickup in and that way the 68 D-18 is uncut. Hope you find what works for you and fits your budget. I guess I'm spoiled by the 40 years of Martin ownership I have had. Let me know what you get.

Will do. Thanks for your help. I'm waiting to hear back from Chris at Martin.

I'll probably go for a lower end model...since it'll mainly be used in the house.

IMO the lower end Martins as well as Taylors are not the best bang for the buck....it is like buying a Porsche 924 thinking you have a Porsche but really you do not.

For $1000 or so there are better options.

The singer in my original band has a Martin he bought new for $600+...can't remember the model...but it plays and sounds awesome. The thing that some are forgetting here is that it's an endorsement type deal...I can probably get a good deal.

They are all nice, sorta you get what you pay for. What I mean is that they all sound good, but for each bump up in price, you can hear it. Probably for what you are looking at spending the DCX1's series wouldn't be bad, and some come w/ electronics for plugging in. I thought about those hard (this was a while ago so it was the prior D1 models), but ended up with a D18-VM.

The best thing you could do is go to a shop and play them all. If you ever make it near Southern NH there is a great shop up there for acoustics that has them all.

thanks. I'll probably check to see what GC has...they usually have at least 5-10 different models.

I love Martin's. My step-dad has 2, one of them being the Eric Clapton sig. They sound really really nice, but I cannot get over how they feel. I love that deep, rich Martin sound, but the playability kills it for me...That will definately keep me from buying one. Taylor's to me dont sound as nice, a bit more compressed, but playing them is a dream...akin to my PRS in a way.

My old D-18 (1968) has a great bluegrass type of a voice and the harder you play it the better it sounds. The action is kinda high, by my choice, but overall its been a great guitar. I like it as much as the old D-28 from the 40s I played a couple of years ago. For my ear (57 year old ear) the mahogany acoustics sound better. It could just be me but as I get older the rosewood style guitars just sound dead. Its very personal and you gotta try alot of different ones and take your time in your choice.
