Hey Ventura, how would you explain the differences the KT77's make in detail if you wouldnt mind? I have run =C='s and now have EL34 BHT's and it sounds awesome but want know if the KT's will make it even better for me and what I want before I spend big $$$$ on those GL's. Thanks

Sure thing - little more sparkle, the notes are livelier, and overall it just seems a touch more open and rich - still retains its presence, still retains if not adds some shine - but as a fellow Bognerite explained to me, with the Gold Lion KT77s, the notes just 'dance' off the cabinet a little more. I couldn't agree more. They sound incredible - and this was a very noticeable difference immediately. Will I go back to EL34s? Maybe for a change, but I think as it stands right now - I'm sticking with the KT77s by Gold Lion. It really took an already incredible amp and just added some WOW to it even more.

To each their own, however... Your ears may say differently.

Peace,
Mojo
I would agree with this 100%. ;) The mids are tighter and punchier. They come out of the cab and do the jig in the room before smacking you in the face. At first you're like wtf was that and then you go back and hit that pinch harmonic again just to be sure.   I thought so. Where the hell did that come from. Rush back to swap your Winged C el34's back in. No way. Yep way. GL77's all the way. Never coming out again. I miss my 20th.

:m9: :m9: :D I love your old amp!

I have some GL Kt77's ready to go in right now!

Oh man, let us know how the tube swap works out. Ventura aka Mo'pheus, has been on me for awhile to get these into mine...
  How long? I tortured Mo for three months to get the GL's in there. PM's and all. He kept giving me lame excuses
Hey, hey... c'mon, in my defense I was just AT THAT TIME not convinced another quad of glass was going to make a difference in an already perfect amp.

Ya bastids.... :gethim:

My 6L6 XTC 20th is also a keeper for life, together with my Herbert. My perfect combo!

Cannot say enough good things about this masterpiece.

Nice setup. My drummer really likes the XTC 20th...said it suits me real well. He plays guitar, too, but, thru a Dimebag pedal...looks at the XTC faceplate like it's some sort of pilot's cockpit. :D

One of the guys on here, said that the 20th XTC sounds great at low volume but falls apart at high volumes. He sold his because of it. Are you finding this, any truth to this?

That might have been Stevie? Gotta make sure it's not a flipper LOOKING for a reason to dump the gear (with all respects, Stevie!!). I've not had a problem with my 20thA when the levels are up - say around 2 o'clock, maybe 3 o'clock on the master and 3+ o'clock on the channel volume. I will say the EQ shifts once past noon in the MV. I also had to be more cognizant of the excursion switch, the vintage/modern switch, and definitely the depth. I had to pull back on a lot of the lower frequency adjustments as there's a LOT of bass that this thing pumps, and ya, at higher levels, it started to go a bit sideways. I tightened it up and it sounds mint. That's it that's all. The amp is ridiculously loud - at least in my opinion. I've never played it dimed, haven't found a need for it - mind you, some day I will. 3 o'clock is plenty loud - plenty!

It's such a sweet piece of kit, I can't believe I don't have one already. But at the moment, not that I'm complaining, but I'm kinda struggling to find space and time for the stuff I have now. But the gas man, the gas....    Anyways, hearing what you've said before, I'm thinking 77's is a good way to split the difference between the EL34's and 6L6's. I have a slew of cabs with 65's, greens, v30's, v30x75's, and hoping this guy will work with some kind of combo of these. What are you running?

Running the straight up 20thA 4x12 - loaded with V30s. It's fine - more than fine - I'm just toying with the idea of loading some AGs in there as well - X pattern and all. But seriously, as it is right now, couldn't be better.
